Title: Oil for my -86 1200
Post by: Hasse on July 14, 2013, 05:38:00 PM
Hello.
Theres probably a lot of tips in the forum about which oil to use on FJ`s, but I dont feel like searching right now, it`s half past midnight here in northern Norway.
So, what kind of oli are you folks using for your FJ`s? Mineral, semi-synthetic og fully synthetic? Brands?
Been too much rain here the last month, almost no driving... Might as well do some maintenance...

Hi mate, that's the worst thing y!ou could ask on here, starts looooong debates :scratch_one-s_head:  , anyway any good quality oil that's not full of friction additives, or full synthetics, as they can cause issues in some bikes,, some use a certain diesel oil , , mineral grade oils of goôd quality  and you should be good

Oil questions are as bad as religion, politics or guns for topics. What are you running now? Switching from one to another seems to cause short term issues with the clutch. Dino to full synth in either direction seems to cause the most slip. I went from semi-synth to full synth and had issues for a few tank fulls, then it seemed normal... We all have stories so when you wake up (your sleep schedule is not our problem), use the search function on "OIL" and plan to sit for a while...

Use motorcycle specific oil, change it as required, use good filters, ride it like you stole it.... Kookaloo my friend... How is your weather now in Norway?

I just use as close as I can to the manufactures recommendations  :wacko2: :wacko2: Now that I have been a smart ass. I use 15-40 diesel rated oil. But I don't live in "warm" Norway... There I go again......

Just about everything you might want to know about motorcycles and oil:

fjowners.wikidot.com/oil

I use Shell Rotella T 5-40 or 15-40 depending on weather. As was said, switching all the way can cause problems, mysteriously, it seems. On at least my bike, the engine would either consume (or leak?) dino oil, but switching to synthetic halted (almost?) all oil consumption.

Basically: Any good motorcycle oil, but car oils are not ok.

I went from dino to fully synth from castrol without any issue or slippage on the clutch. It acctualy reduced my second gear issue a great deal, belive it or not.

Monkey, it's not our sleep schedule that gets us from Norway lazy, but as kickass vikings we are out hunting those damn bears at that hour! :-) (you might read that as beers too :good2:)

Yamalube is only way to Fly!! Ten thousand Japanese in lab coats can't be wrong !!  If you argue this fact , then I must ask why you ride a Yamaha to begin with. Cheers, and Yamaha HA HA HA to all
