I'm thinking about adding a GPS to my FJ so I don't have to stop and mess with my phone. Can anyone make a recommendation for a cheap GPS and mount?

Excellent, thanks! I did a search for GPS but didn't see that write up.
I also use the Ram mount. Bought mine via Amazon.com. I as others, cut the "cap" off the steering head nut and drilled a hole as per the Ram mount instructions. Now that I recall when the cap was cut off I think that I just mounted it in the existing stem hole. My first mounting try was to drill though the cap and install, that didn't work to well. At any rate, just hacksaw/dremmel etc. the cap off the nut. Very pleased with the Ram mount system. I just bought a Garmin Nuvi 2555" automotive grade GPS and will looking for a plastic case to put it in while using it on the motorcycle.
I gave everyone with a GPS on a bike a bad time but have recently seen good value in having one. So here I am eating my words. :flag_of_truce: :good2:

Garmin -- Nuvi 2450 LM. It allows you to use MapQuest to program routes using their Route Planner feature, and download that to the GPS. This is a feature that was important to me. Not sure if that is important to you.
I used RAM mounting hardware from expressmounts.com

I've got it powered by a power point I installed as shown in the photos.
Programming the routes is a learning experience, but it works. Give me a shout if you get it, and I can give you a couple of tips that might help you avoid some dead ends (pun intended)

I used a ram mount on the steering stem nut. You just have to drill a hole through the stem nut for the mounting bolt put the nut for the bolt inside the stem nut and tighten it down. Then put the, stem nut back on.
I went a little farther and epoxied the nut up inside the stem nut. Clean the inside of stem nut with alcohol. Put a little grease or oil on the threads of the bolt. And put it and the nut inside stem nut and tighten it down. Then fill in around the nut with epoxy. I have a washer under my stem nut. For the conversion to gsxr front end so I don't know if you have to worry about too much epoxy not letting the stem nut go on far enough. So you might want to check that before you put to much epoxy in.
I still haven't figured out how to post pictures but there are pictures of my ram mount. Here. The south west Wisconsin ride in thread someone asked what it was in the picture of my digital dash.

LOL thanks for the info. I found a good used Numi 265 and the price is right, so I think I'll get it. I'm not too worried about needing to program a destination, it's being able to get home that I want :biggrin:. Thanks everyone for the tips on the RAM mounts, I think I found everything I need on the Express Mounts site.

Thanks for the info on the Monkey Made parts, it looks pretty solid! However after all I went through to install the OE clock, I'm not about to block it lol!
