I ordered a brace from RPM, it came yesterday. I put it on, it seems pretty straightforward. I thinks it feels a little more stable, but that might be just the feeling of newness - I haven't gone very far.
However, I did notice that on the bigger bumps I am getting a kind of a click from the vicinity of the fork. This was not there before I put the brace on. The brace is tight, so I don't think it itself is what's making the sound.
Any ideas?
I stopped by Randy's shop a couple of weeks ago and he noticed my horn and horn bracket had impacted the fork brace. When he (and Baldy) installed the new fork valves and springs the old fork oil was NASTY! You might check to see if you have any scarring on the brace. I think my fork was blowing thru its travel either because of the old oil and worn out springs or because I ride like a retarded gorilla. :pardon:
New fork valves and springs make an incredible difference. :good2: :good2: :good2: :good2: :good2:
I noticed the need for and the benefits of the fork brace at speeds above 70 mph. Is was squirrelly and now it's not.

Thanks Jeff. Fork overhaul kit, valves, springs + brace are going on my order to Randy as well.
That's a possibility. It's a little dark to see now.
A fork brace and those spangly valves really set your front end up. Your gonna do it eventually, so you might as well do it now.
A sure-footed future is but a few tweeks away.

I'm not sure how big the RPM brace is, just from the pictures.
However, IIRC, Klavdy had a problem with part of his Superbrace contacting the bottom edge of the fairing.
Went back and found his pic:

It's not that simple.
I want to get an updated set of forks, at least a 89+. If I dump all this money into these forks I have now, I am going to have to do it again when I get new ones. Which will make me not want to spend the money on the new ones. I just got a new tire on there, too...
Also, if I start on the forks, I'll have to do brake lines. And if I have to do brake lines I'll have to get rid of anti-dive. And I won't be happy with just plugging it, so I'll have to figure out proper block-off plates. This snowballs...

It is that simple. Put those new RPM valves in the forks you have now. You do not have to modify anything as everything is a drop in component with some measuring & cutting of the spacer material.
If you get different forks, then you can just change the parts over from the old forks to the new forks since there was no modifications.
I know someone who is doing that exact thing this weekend, converting the RPM components from one bike to another.

I'm doing this right now...buying all parts for a winter swap out,I'll get rear done 1st and front is winter...I'm going 86 to 89 with fronts being overhauled with RPM parts and it's worth the wait to collect everything, got a 2003 R6 blue dots and master too, when I do it it will be totally re-built for years of modern enjoyment!!

That was it. Horn was hitting the brace.
For now that has been remedied by turning the horn bracket 90 degrees.

It's only simple if you have ready money sitting around...
I'll get to it, eventually.
