Title: Internet Meme: FJ 1200 - The Most Interesting Bike in the World.
Post by: FJ MCC VII on June 23, 2013, 04:42:48 PM
Well, I got my latest FJ out of the shop yesterday afternoon, took a short 30 mile cruise last night on my new Superbike under the Supermoon, and  decided to put it through the paces today, 130 miles through the Texas Hill Country west of Austin. (Great motorcycle routes around Wimberly!) Dropped by my friend's ranch and took a couple of pics. Got home and decided to make a new internet meme.

Now, I think internet memes are true art, as well as often being funny as f%#k. Good Guy Greg, Scumbag Steve, Insanity Wolf, and, of course,
The Most Interesting Man in the World, with the dude from the Dos XX beer commercials, where the caption is "I don't always..., But when I do,
I prefer..."

So here is my submission for the internet meme "FJ 1200 - The Most Interesting Bike in the World":

I guess I should have titled it "Yamaha FJ - The Most Interesting Bike in the World", but hey, I got a 1200.

What's the sweet looking white FJ as your icon?

And I was just out on those roads last weekend. Really is some swell riding around here. Did a sprint out to Marble Falls and back on Friday for 'work'.

That was a custom '92 I had 02-04. Bought it from a graphic artist in K.C. It ran as good as it looked, tweaked to the max. This is the one I pegged the speedo on down in South Texas. I had that bike when I lived in Tulsa. North Side, the tough part of town. I read a book about Pretty Boy Floyd, which contained an address of a house he'd lived in, in Tulsa. Took a putt over to see the house one evening, (original one, still there) to pay "homage" to the Oakie Robin Hood. Rode home around sunset, parked the bike out front. Round 10:00, went out to put it in the garage, it was gone.
Didn't lock the steering column. Couple of teenaged punks just rolled it away.

The irony was not lost on me. I cussed, then I screamed, then I laughed. I mean, what else could I do?

It actually got recovered by TPD a week later, $500 worth of cosmetic damage. Ignition, gas tank, windscreen... Got it fixed up, but had to sell it soon after.  I bet it's still rolling, somewhere. I always preferred the silver/white paint job, (and I had one of those, too), but the custom paint on this one was the best I'd ever seen. I posted another pic of it on here recently, FJ Bike Pics, I think.
To paraphrase Dice Clay, "Yeah, she was mine..."

Haha, so you're the adventurous type? I'd have to save up a little money for that trip. We can go for one of those advanced IBA rides that require you to already be a member, 2k in 24 hours or some such craziness. We'd have to do even better than that to make it to Seattle and back in a weekend, anyways! 5k miles at least, 6k if you don't stick to the highways the whole time. (Assuming LA, and then North, that is.)

That really is one of the prettiest FJ's I've ever seen. Inspiring, makes me want to try a white paint job when I get around to cosmetically restoring mine.

OK, maybe not Seattle. Hamilton Pool via Fitzhugh Road perhaps? I took the Blanco-Wimberley-Dripping Springs trip again. This time AT NIGHT.
It was much, much cooler, and I don't just mean temperature. Hardly any traffic, only deer I saw were in downtown Wimberley, eating the grass in front of City Hall. I saw less than half a dozen cars in about 30 miles on 32 and 12. It was kind of Hunter S. Thompson-esque:

I'm sure you've read that before. It's still the best writing on riding I've ever read.

I'm riding to Tyler for the 4th. Be back in about an hour...
