Title: GSXR rear wheel ID???
Post by: Motorheaddad on June 19, 2013, 11:59:37 PM
Ok, I've been doing some reading and trying to figure out what year and model this wheel is off of. The guy has it advertised as a 92 GSXR 750 rear wheel. But from what I've read it's either a 92 GSXR 600 or a 93-95 750-1100, since those had the straight spokes and not the finned. Am I right with this info? If it's a 92 600, will it work for the rear wheel mod? If it will, I will most likely pick it up and deal with the mismatched wheels for now. On to the product

The straight spokes are from a newer year, the axial size will be wrong.

I would take the FJ's axle with me and see if it fits correctly. And make sure you get all the spacers with it because it'll be a nightmare buying them piece meal after. Make sure the spacer between the sprocket and wheel is there as well. The sprocket will fit on the wheel without it, but it's majorly important.

93gsxr750 has straight spokes. 92gsxr600 has straight spokes. But its not a 600,because they only have 5 bolts for the sprocket. I don't remember when the 1100s went to straight spokes. I think 94. The axle is correct. Well let me look at the picture again. I can tell by looking

Yah it's the right size. The wheel will have the year of production cast into it. But could be a year off like my 86fj was actually produced in 11/85. If you go to motosport or anyone that sells OEM parts you can bring up the microfeesh for the different models . I know the 93 750gsxr has 2 different rear wheel setups.

Both of my wheels the breakers said were 750. Said all the parts are from the same bike. Both were 600, one with brake parts from both a 750 and 1100. The other one the guy swore up and down that it came from a 750. And it came and was a 600 wheel again. But all the parts are from a 600. According to the gixxer guys the 600 wheel is the lightest.  I think it's because it has one less bolt for the sprocket.

I needed straight spokes. To go with the straight spokes on the 2008 gsxr 1000 front end on mine.

I'm tempted to pick it up cause of the price, but will it be a major pain to find all the other parts?

Well turns out it was off of a 2000 Suzuki bandit LT250. I guess the owner had it on his 91 GSXR 750. This might be another wheel or bike with some interchangeable parts

If you really don't know what you're dealing with, I would be wary of this. Now you are considering a Frankenstein set up with a lot of unknowns. I would wait for a private seller on ebay and offer to get the entire wheel pack w/ brake parts from him/her. That's what I did and it made the whole job so easy.

Other than that, what does Stockers down in your neck of the woods got? I know they are kinda pricey but they will get you what you need.

Well I found a complete wheel, along with caliper, spacers, and brake rod off of a 92 GSXR. I was going to do a trade for some tools but I would have to ship some pretty big tools. Decided to just pay cash, got it all for $200. I should be getting it in July (sister in laws cousin is picking it up for me and won't be down to visit till July). You guys think $200 is a good price or did I overpay? As for stockers, not a fan! They are the perfect example of price gouging! I would rather give my money to a private seller.

No, the tire is dry rotted. Probably just gonna cut it off instead of trying to unmount it.
