Title: 89 spring and damper
Post by: Jeff0308 on June 15, 2013, 10:48:22 PM
While my fuel tank is being sorted and I'm sort of renewed interest. The spring / shocker is knackered. Is it a problem removing it without disturbing the carbis ? Also the dampner. Unknown how this works as when I twist the dial nothing happens the number stays on the same when the dial twists??? Are they a repairable item?  Now having said all this. There is a guy in Clayton who I was put on to that apparently recos the shockers. Am I best letting him remove and refit or do I do it. They only reason for this is things do have a tendency to turn to shit of late. Also there appears to be a pipe of some sort coming off the shocker that appears to be connected to the dampner. What's this all about.

It is stock but unfortunately I need a replacement now as its got to be registered soon. Without it its a no go. I was hoping randy may have had his out that's why I've waited so long. There's one on eBay the same as mine but buying second hand that's old is not really what I want to do.  Any suggestions as to do I remove it and send it in to be sorted or send the whole bike in? Apparently the guy recommended by someone repos the original to the actual rider of the bike. Eg my weight and bike etc.

Well....I took the shocker / spring out...........and snapped the bolt, that must have been weak as it took no effort at all to bust it... Either that or I'm heavy handed...... Yep,,,,,,,,my wife reckons heavy handed. Never mind. Now to get that sorted. Little bits at a time and we will be ready to rock.

The pipe looking thing on the adjuster, is a cable  with a cover over it that turns the adjuster on the shoc when the dial is turned, at least it once did :scratch_one-s_head:

Got another shocker from a donor FJ surprisingly great condition. It's only temporary til I get the RWC and few extra $. Got a shocker damper adjuster which was a bit ordinary so I reconditioned mine. Works likea gem. Only had one issue. I snapped the top bolt without any effort. The replacement came with one. Mufflers tyre chain and sprocket left to do. Won't be long now........I hope
