I did the coil relay mod when I was by my brother (the engineer) He wanted to cut the wires and "do it right ".luckily I made him do it the way the file said. And make it so I could remove it and put it back stock. Because it worked great I until I got 200 miles in the middle of nowhere Kansas. And it quit. I put it back stock and it started back up and ran fine all the way home
Has anyone had similar problems? ?
Assuming you used an appropriate relay, that is unusual. They can and do fail but usually after a very long service life. But, like anything, you can get a dud. I struck one a while back that didn't work out of the box, it was a no brand one that came with the device though.
Did you determine for sure that it was the relay and not the wiring? It is more common for wires to come loose in crimp connectors than it is for new relays to fail.
I would just replace it with a brand name one of the correct type and you should be good to go.

I checked all the connections first. But I'll check them alittle closer now that I'm trying not sitting on the side of the hyway. I used the one I got from Randy. I mounted it to the ground/ mounting bolt for the coils and put a big glob of rtv between it and the frame to help with vibration.
I checked all the connections again today. And changed the fuse too just incase. Even though the other one looks fine.
still nothing
Could heat have caused the relay to fail? Although I was going 80 or so at the time?
I guess i'll order another one from Randy and give it another try.
Call me and I can tell you how to test the relay.
There should not have been any cutting required for the installation...

Relays can just crap out at any time. I did the headlight relay mod and used a Bosch relay on one of the circuits. Everytime I got the fairing back on, that circuit would quit working. Not sure why it waited until the fairing was back on, but finally tossed the Bosch relay and replaced it with a cheap unit from Autozone and everything has been fine since.
Electronics .... shit happens

Randy is freaking great. He is going to warranty the relay for me. I can't say enough good things about how he does business.
Thanks Randy
