Title: South Central FJ Rally?
Post by: aviationfred on June 04, 2013, 02:52:32 PM
Has anyone consider having a South Central FJ Rally?  Maybe alternating years with the Colorado Rally. Here is a link to a possible location in the Ozarks of Northern Arkansas.

I'd be interested Fred....I'm familiar with the Harrison area as I spend a lot of time in AR with my business and I've always wanted to take my bike there....I've also spent a lot of time in Eureka Springs and I think it might be the place to base the rally from instead of Harrison...there are lots of car & bike rallies held in Eureka every year...I think you'll are doing Colorado this year so I guess you are speaking next year for the South Central?...I'm in....Louie

here's some links on Eureka

Eureka is a tourist trap.  Okay if you want to congregate in a parking lot with a bunch of cages, but miles from the good riding.

Harrison is a lot better located, but closer to Jasper would be the best location for a rally.  There's a M/C friendly spot called The Hub about halfway between Jasper and Harrison that would be perfect.  Lots of good riding in the heart of the Ozarks.

I just looked up The Hub and I agree on the location, I knew the story of the old Dogpatch place but I didn't know what was there now...yes, Eureka is definitely a tourist town which is the reason I thought people who've never been there might enjoy the restaurants, live music and all that other touristy stuff...Harrison seems boring to me but I never spent much time there

But, I agree, The Hub is much better located....hey, at least I got you out of the woodwork  welcome aboard

I would probably be up for something like this proposed rally.  I've been wanting to do the Ozarks and it would be better in a group.

Whoever put those rides together in Fred's link must have been a Harley rider.  Except for the Moonshine Run, they missed ALL the good roads.

And there is no mention of Push Mountain, aka as the Arkansas Gap.  An incredible road and an absolute MUST ride for any visit to Arkansas!  I've seen the videos by the slowoldguy, those are the good roads.  I do them a couple time a year.

And AR 123, 7, 263, 16, 9(the Devil's Backbone),AR 23(The Pig Trail), and on and on.....as far as scheduling, I wouldn't recommend a holiday weekend, the roads are clogged with traffic of all kinds. If the goal of the rally is primarily riding, The Hub is definitely a great place to gather up.

This is a 500 mile route used for the AAD 500 (Arkansas All Day). I don't believe it is being run as an organized event any more, but it includes a lot of the great roads in Arkansas.
