Title: Handlebar Risers?
Post by: ~JM~ on June 03, 2013, 09:24:10 PM
Is there any way to raise the handlebars on an '89 FJ? I need to sit upright a bit more.

I've tried a search & received so many false replies that I have to ask for assistance or a link.

Thank you

I have a set of these risers on my 89'. The rise is 3/4". They are made by Genmar.

Thanks Fred. 3/4" rise doesn't sound like very much. Has it been very beneficial?

I like them, the rise height is noticeable. Here is a link that is another option, a bit more pricey but the seller does ship worldwide.

There are a few options, here's my 3,
Raask handlebar clamp on risers. Can be fitted with aftermarker 'bars.

XJ-6 "new" Diversion top yoke.

Or just a plain FJ top yoke cut up to add to top yoke still in place.

I'm selling the Raask clamp ons and cut up top yoke if anyone is interested.

I have a set of these risers on my 1989, they don't look like they'll make a difference but they do. I highly recommend them.

I have the LSL bar kit also. I paid full freight for it, but it came with a bar and a longer brake SS brake line. Those on eBay are a bargain. I later switched to a black Daytona Touring bar that works even better, and it's steel. Higher bars lead to other problems, windshield wind noise, buffeting, and the stock mirrors won't show you what's behind you. I added a little bar end mirror on the left side to check for flashing lights. I'm still working on a satisfactory windshield.

Enjoy the day.
I just completed having my bars raised. I am height challenged and I wanted my 89 FJ1200 to be able to be a sweet ride for 300 miles a day while touring. I can provide you with the parts list for the brake and clutch lines, along with the other changes which will have to be accomplished. I kept all my original parts so the bike can be converted back to original factory configuration.
Today the FJ provides the comfort of a 1975 Honda 750. What I have noticed in road riding is a vibration at 3,000 RPM and I am sure it is due to the higher handle bar height. positive note I am able to snap the bike out of a curve quicker than before the Mod. I also changed the rear sprocket to one of less teeth. I hope this improves my fuel economy for rides in Northern Nevada. The bike handles well at high speeds, ninety plus.
Contact me at d.n5@juno.com if I can be of help to you.
I purchased an upper triple tree on ebay and had it modified at a machine shop and this was the start for my Long Horn FJ.

I changed my 87 bars last year. Used these:  http://spieglerusa.com/handlebar-conversion-kit-4398.htm (http://spieglerusa.com/handlebar-conversion-kit-4398.htm)

They arn't cheap but they come with everything you need, except bar ends, and they fit and work well.  It is a much more up right riding position.

Good luck!

Another option:  Corbin or otherwise lower seat than stock

Raises the relative location of the bars vs your butt.  May have to look at dropping the pegs as well, though, depending on your condition (i.e., my knees and hips are fine, but my shoulders haven't been right for years).
