Title: on the road and all legal,
Post by: ken65 on May 27, 2013, 04:23:14 AM
the bike bike passed the roadworthy with no dramas, went to dept of t'port, no worries,
rode around for a 100 k or more, for some reason i kept going to on/off ramps so i could rejoin the highway and
legally justify going from 0 to a 110 as quick as i could, , the more you ride these bikes the more you fall in
love with them, what a magnificent bit of machinery,.,.

hello,

Good to see another FJer on the road.  Seems to be heaps of you guys up north, bugger all down here in Vic, maybe even less in SA?

Keep an eye out for the semi-annual FJ rally... Apparently a real blast.

cheers, Gareth

I know exactly what you mean Ken.  Buuutt, I'm reminded we need a new fridge, cooktop, possibly hot water system first, uuurrrgghhhh!   :dash2:
Trying to talk my brother into getting an FJ, he wants to get back into bikes, loves riding mine.

OK Ken, you've checked first gear out, how about the rest of them?

hehe, i checked out 2nd  upto redline yesterday,  would have done the licence if they caught me, my main problems going to be finding somewhere to have a play, as your've said previously they have taken the fun out of it.  But a little fun is better than no fun

Zero to the speed limit can be fun..... but at some point you're gonna have to get somewhere you can turn her loose

wide open third gear about 8K RPM =

Hmmm  LOL.... dont think i've ever looked at the speedometer while in third gear at redline.....shit is usually happening just a little too quickly for that kind of distraction but in deference to the question i would say fast enough to lose your license in most states and countries  :good2:

In real life terms i would say thats when the beauty shows her beast and you fall in love!  :drinks:

KOokaloo!

thats what i was thinking, i looked at the speedo and tacho , just a glance and it was well and truly into the redline and looked to be about 140kph,  im not sure what got over me , but the young punk in the WRX next to me didnt help , i really should be more mature i guess..

Ken, if you into the redline at around 140, you were only in second gear!!! They do about 135 in second. Broadly speaking, you pick up about 35kph per gear at redline.

That would make it 1-100
                          2- 135
                          3- 170
                          4- 205
                          5- 240

I only took note of those things when I first got it but the above sounds about right.

Noel,

Does the above mean you are asserting that the FJ will do 100mph in first gear?  I do not believe this -it just seems too tall.  Has anyone actually looked to see what an FJ will do, at red line, in first gear, with standard gearing?  As information my GSXR750 will do about 83mph at red line, in first.

www.gearingcommander.com (http://www.gearingcommander.com) has the stock 89 to 92 FJ at 54.7 MPH @ 8500 RPM. Or 88 KPH. Seems close enough.

Sorry Dan, KPH!!

Standard FJ does 100kph (62 mph) in first. Gearing and tyres will muck that around a bit but not much.

That would tally with around 62 mph at redline (9500 rpm)
