I've had bikes on and off for years. I work on my own vehicles. I cannot for the life of me figure out why there is a bolt through the middle of the oil drain plug on my FJ. Anyone? I just finished changing the oil and then wondered if I could put a temp sender in place of the bolt.

A brief history lesson.
That Phillips head screw is to attach a factory temp sensor that is used for tuning purposes. It assures the tech that the engine is up to proper operating temp before final fine tuning on carbs is done.
It is not used, I doubt if it ever was. All the techs I know just stuck a thermometer in the open oil fill port.
Also, you may not know that on the oem header down tubes, at the bottom, there are provisions for O2 sensors that can be installed and be used to adjust each cylinder's fuel/air mixtures, again for tuning purposes only and rarely, if ever, used.
Cheers.
Pop quiz of Friday.
Well, that explains it. Thanks very much for the information.
