Hi Guys,
I have had my carbs cleaned and have (what I think is) the pull cable installed, the choke cable also but I can't get (what I think is) the push cable attached to the bottom of the carb ....
I did mark the cables and cable retainers on the carbs & cables before taking them in for cleaning so at least I know what goes where
Any help would be appreciated as it's doing my head in.
Mick
Mick, when installing your new cables make sure the cables don't catch or bind on the throttle cable retainers on the carburetor. One of the cables is pretty easy to install with the carbs in the idle position the other is easier to install if you manually open the carbs to the wide open position. That will move the other cable retainer to a spot where you get the second cable installed. Once the cables are in the retainers you should be able to pull the cables into their proper location and tighten the jam nuts on the new cables... Hope this helps..

Another tip: Where the cables slice in at the plastic box (my unofficial term....) my cable ends are color coded. One is black the other silver. Just match the colors up. The cover top has some real small writing on it and I think it indicates which side is "push" / "pull" or similar. Trivia for those that want to know.

The cables also connect up easier if the carbs are removed from the head

Correct, reconnect both cables to the carbs, then put the carbs on.
You can tell the pull cable by opening the throttle a little and looking to see which cable shortens or moves up in the cable housing towards the throttle handgrip.
