Title: Red on Black Paint Scheme
Post by: p51bombay on May 18, 2013, 11:25:12 PM
Anyone know if this red on black FJ is an OEM paint scheme and if so what years and countries had it?  Looks pretty good.

Hi wasn't a standard colour scheme here in Australia and I'm pretty sure it was not a colour scheme anywhere else, somewhere on the forum there is a article on standard colour schemes for the years, If the base colour is a blue black it could be the 88 model which wasn't released in the U.S. or the 89 model which was.

Burt whatever it is its a very nice looking machine  :good2:

The bike is the 86/87 year, AD units, dual silders on the sides of the scoops, wheels look stock, after market wind screen. lotsokids has a Bkack with Red FJ, (http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=1448;type=avatar)

Stock 1986 European model.  That looks kinda like our own Alf from Tenerife.

that is a stock colour, mine was that scheme originally and it is very pretty in the flesh, i think the colour is called midnight blue, obviously the fairing lowers are aftermarket and have been sprayed to match.

Yes. Sorry I am a little late responding. I have a 1988 FJ1200 that I purchased in Hungary. This year was not imported into the U.S.

That looks pretty good, I gather the red scoops are not standard though, right?

Are those pipes slip on or is that a full system?

I believe the scoops were red originally. The Vance & Hines system is modified - welded onto my stock pipe.

Good point. Mine is actually this "blue black" as it is a VERY, VERY dark blue. Unless you look at it about 1 foot away, you would think it's black. I actually use black touch-up paint.

I use a black Sharpie pen for minor scratches where the white plastic substrate shows through. Quick, easy, and unnoticeable to the untrained eye.

So you attached the canister to the short section after the collector box?  I'm guessing those were some sort of aftermarket slip on to begin with.  What's the other side look like?

It's only a single right-side pipe. Nothing on the other side.
It must have been an aftermarket pipe that I had cut off. But there were no markings on it.

Makes sense now, I thought you meant the stock collector box system.  That fits really good though.
