Hi,
Been lurking awhile because I have been looking for my first bike and saw a 92 FJ1200 for sale in town. I was looking for a naked Goldwing, but really like the look of the FJ and what I read about their reliability and that there are websites like this to help keep it running.
So last night I bought it. Cobalt blue, Corbin saddle. 63,000 miles. $1100.
It hasn't been run in 3 years because the guy and his wife started having kids and one was born premature so he's been too busy with life stuff to ride. Hope I got it cheap enough.
I'll get it home next week and start working on it.

That sounds pretty reasonable to me. I bought a 86 with 96k KLMS. for 1500. Big R
Welcome, what should we call you? We love new members and helping them get their FJs in Kookaloo shape...
Billy.
It needs a new battery. What would you guys recommend?
I'll try to get pics posted Monday.
I'm out of town at my daughter's college graduation this weekend. Just drove through a fierce hailstorm that left about 6 inches on the road. It was like driving in the dead of winter. Even put the truck in 4wd for a bit.
Billy, I use a GSM battery from RPM www.rpmracingca.com (http://www.rpmracingca.com), before that I used the lead acid stuff from Wall Mart and other sources, got me a 3 to 4 years each with a battery tender. I don't ride every day...
Welcome Billy ! Lots of good information and help here when you get going on your project :good2:.

Welcome to the Kookaloo zone. Lots of information for the asking. Maybe over the next 2 months you will get your new FJ sorted out and you can join us at a Rally the 3rd weekend of July in Gunnison, Colorado.
Fred
That sounds fun! Never been to Gunnison.
Welcome Billy!
I was looking at naked goldwings too before I test drove one, I think a '78... it was a pig, a giant pig. Felt like I was riding a suburban with four flat tires.
I kept looking and discovered the FJ's. I flew down to Southern California from Central Oregon and picked up an '87 and rode it home.
I'm bettin' you will love yours. This forum has been a treasure trove of info and everyone has been incredibly helpful. :good2: :good2: :good2:
Randy at RPM is babysitting several weeks of my allowance already. Fork brace, carb parts, uni pods, 18T front sprocket. He is a great guy with a well run company that has amazing customer service. I highly recommend him.
Keep us informed on your progress!
Jeff
Welcome Billy. You got a good deal on your FJ.
You know, Denver is only 2 hours south of Cheyenne.........come on down, and we'll go ride the twistys in the front range!
,, Welcome mate, , nice price for your girl :good2: , I'm using agm batterys in two of mine, pretty much like monkey man has, great for the price, and no acid to leak out, will be buying another for the ambulance when I can

Yep, like that one. I hardly ever use the battery tender anymore, it really holds a charge. I put the tender on if she sits for long periods (more than a month), but I chose to not let her sit, too much fun to take her out just to charge up the battery.... :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
Kookaloo zone? That's a new one for me. Sounds Aussie! What's it mean?

Naahh...not quite Aussie. Kookaburra can fly, eat and laughs a lot. In the Kookaloo Zone ya don`t eat.
:hi: Welcome aboard enjoy the ride lots of really good stuff here, IF you read the forum there is a section on the Kookaloo of an FJ, It was bought to the forum by one of the guys in the U.S. I think it was George, who got it from his daughter, anyways read the article will explain it all. :good2:
$1100 is a fantastic deal even if you spend several thousand on it to personalise it to your riding style, its still money well spent, these bikes have been around for almost 30yrs and are still very popular with those that own them, its almost impossible to kill them, once you have it sorted it will go all day and do it comfortably with truck loads of power and performance. :good2: :yahoo:
The one other thing you should do is get to one of the rallies, there is so much information to be gleaned from some most knowledgeable people and some great assistance :good2:
Welcome Billy. Sounds like a good deal to me. Think about the rally in Colorado mid July. Get a battery and it will probably will need the carbs cleaned. Check out the files section. You may luck out and can get by with just some carb cleaner in the gas. Keep us posted.
Kurt
Thanks Guys,
Kurt, I'll see if I can. Might have to be next summer at this point...
