I just installed a new slave cylinder & a new Galfer braided stainless clutch hose on my '89 FJ.
I routed the clutch line exactly like the OEM line, but now feel like it runs too close to the left combustion cylinder & will get hot, or possibly melt the outer sheathing.
I'm also wondering how much brake fluid is usually required when you swap out a slave cylinder & a brake line? So far... I've gone through over half of an 8 oz. bottle of Maxima DOT 4. How many times were you required to refill the master cylinder?

I have the Galfer clutch line, and I routed it exactly like the factory line.
mine is a '90, and there is a small clip tab on the frame, just above where the air scoop runs through the frame, that the clutch line is clipped into. It keeps the clutch line from laying across the engine. There is also the wire clip a little further down that holds the rubber grommet that the clutch line also runs through.
Mine has about 3/4 of an inch of clearance away from the cylinder head, and it's been like that for about 3 years, and I've never had an issue with it.
The slave cylinder will hold quite a bit of fluid if it was empty before you started filling the clutch system.........

I also routed my Galfer line thru the clip and it's just fine.
I used a YZF750 m/c, though. I'm sure it holds a lot less fluid than the stock unit.

I have an 89' and I have routed the clutch line exactly as stated here by Alan.

I wrapped my SS Spiegler clutch line in HVAC foil tape where it runs under the fairings side panel.
No problems.
I removed the 2 grommets that were on the original OEM line & placed them on the Galfer line. They slide around real loose on the Galfer line until they are hooked into their frame hangers. I also made use of the frame clip. My new line runs along the side of the left cylinders cooling fins & makes direct contact. It appears less than ideal to me. The OEM line was hard tubing bent away from the cylinder in that location.

You might be able to rotate the line around the banjo bolt a little at the slave to take up some slack in the line, or just zip-tie it to the frame so that it doesn't lay on the engine.........I looked at mine again today, and I got 1/2inch to 3/4inch of clearance away from the engine, and I didn't need to zip-tie mine anywhere.....
