Hi,
I bought my brother's 86 FJ1200 from him and it's a cool bike. He changed the gearing by one-tooth. Now, at 80mph it turns 5,000 rpm.
Is that just way too much? It feels and sounds rather busy. 80-85mph is what the traffic runs at here so there's no option to slow down a few mph (would be embarrassing on the Fj besides).
So, is this rpm going to cause overheating? Excess wear?
I'm a new rider (again) so am just going on impressions.

Not sure what change you made, front or back, guessing front sprocket... Either way, welcome lightspeed. More info to us will yield more feed back to you.. Introduce your self and you FJ and some history so we can help you....
Welcome ! What sprokets are you running ? Tooth count please :good2:. I am 18/38 and run around 3800 RPM at 75 (indicated). My speedo bounces a little.. :rofl:
