Title: Oil cooler missing
Post by: mrtom on May 12, 2013, 05:16:44 PM
Hi,
First time I've used this forum and I'm new to the fj.
It's a 1989
Fj1200
I'm from the UK so I guess its a UK model.
Purchased mine cheap off a guy who I think should be shot. Any way I don't like not understanding why people have done certain things and in this instance the oil cooler is missing. The input and output feed on the sump has a a u shaped pipe feeding straight back into the engine? Is this normal?
Just worried about overheating the thing.

I look forward to your replies

Tom

Personally I would not ride it without the oil cooler.

The way you describe what the PO has done does not allow for adequate oil cooling. :negative: Heat is the ENEMY of air cooled engines. Randy at RPM has a complete system that gives you everything you need, to have the best oil cooling offered. Here is the link to the oil cooler.

Thanks for the reply Fred.
I do like the look of the one in the link but It's q little out of my budget at the moment. I may have to source a second hand one off eBay for the time being.
Is this a modification you have heard of in an fj before? I now know from reading on Google on some air cooled bikes people dittch the oil coolers for the cleaner look.
Many thanks
Tom

With the members here that have upgraded their coolers you will likely find a used one here. Just ask.

Thanks for the help guys. Have ordered one off eBay for now to get me through the Summer and will look at up grading soon. Having said that it I didn't realise it was missing until the other day  :scratch_one-s_head: and I've done nearly 600 miles on it.
