IMO, no... I have the same filter (it came with the bike) and my box is so open that it is non existent. I am at 2950 feet , main jets 112 fuel air screws out at 2.5 turns, needle at the 4th slot down. with a Cobra F1 exhaust ( very light and free flowing). And I run fine.  But I don't run hard or extended times above 6 or 7,000 RPM.

I "might" be a little lean on the top end at sea level. Guess I will find out in a few weeks . If that's what you want to run for an air filter then you might adjust your fuel air screws to the rich side ? If you do, turn the screws out to enrichen, and turn in to lean. The screws control fuel not air.

If you are going to buy a free flowing filter then I would recommend you check RPM's WEB site out for uni pods http://www.rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=Carb%3ARPMPod&cat=24 (http://www.rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=Carb%3ARPMPod&cat=24). They are easier to deal with than the K & N in a stock box, unless you did what I did to my box. The Uni's probably filter better also. I don't know that I helped you much but thats about all I have on the subject.

Be aware that K&N filters let a LOT of fine dust thru, they don't filter very well at all. Plenty of research available to google that. UNI filters are much better and they also have an insert for the stock airbox. About the only jetting change I'd recommend with either is 40 pilot jets, assuming stock exhaust.

Just be careful Mark, shes a hand full  If you use the K & N I would recommend the K & N filter oil and keep it serviced.

+1

The UNI in-box filters are also really easy to clean by comparison.
