Title: 1992 Tach problem
Post by: FJ Jeff on May 02, 2013, 12:49:39 PM
I am new to this group, and I have a 1992 FJ 1200 (non ABS) with a tach problem.
It reads about twice what it supposed to read most of the time, once in a while it will act normal for no reason I that I can tell.
More recently I have had a few issues with the carb's from sitting and plan a cleaning and rebuild, and doubt there is any connection between the two, just thought I would mention the carb issue in case there is.
I plan on doing the carb's very soon, recovering from a broken left foot that kept me off of two wheels last season, and am really looking forward to riding again!

Any ideas about the Tach?  I have heard everything from a bad ground (not sure where to look) and possibly a bad ignition module.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice.

I had this issue pre-overhaul...  as we went through the rebuild (see "removed her heart" thread), the grounding at the coils was a focus (the bolt that goes through both coils and the frame...  make sure it is all clean and a low ohm contact).  I'm not sure this was what fixed it, but I have not had the problem post rebuild.  Pre rebuild the bolt was rusty and the connection probably poor...  it had not gotten any attention whatsoever.
