Post by: wavygravy on September 23, 2009, 11:00:01 AM
im a well seasoned rider & racer mostly dirt / flat track back in the day when euro bikes were king, just retired the huskvarna from vintage raceing , rode & twiddled with harlys  for years-[mostly twiddled ] & had always wonderd about the sport bikes there handling ect ive owned tons of various bikes over the years, my new boss at workj had this fj 1200 & knew i was true to the cause & gave me the bike, it has 30.000 on it & smokes a bit , i need new clutch master to take it for a spin as the old one is so pitted it cant be rebuilt, any suggestions for a replacement whould be greatly appreaciated! & im shure its gonna need a new top end job, i have many questions about it all & will go to proper area to post them, im so glad to have found this group! have a great day yall!! :drinks:

Wavygravy,

Hello and welcome.   Were glad you found us too.   :hi:

Clutch slave shouldn't be to hard to find on ebay, or possibly here.  The top end may not need gone through.  There are a few riders here who have had the smoking issue on a bike which, after some ride time, cleared up.

What a great way to own an FJ, I think you will be happy with it's overall performance once you get it on the road, and if your not you can modify the bike as most of us have done.

Later, Phil   :bye2:

Welcome,

the fj can go a lot of miles before needing a top end.  try riding the crap out of it for a couple hundred miles before making a decision to tear it down.

True that! 30K is just broken in good - unless it was all done 1/4 mi at a time... ;)

Regarding the clutch slave, I think there's one on eBay right now...

Oh, and Hello, wavygravy, and welcome!

Welcome to the group.. sounds like you got a great deal on the FJ....

IIRC a brand spanking new slave cylinder is in the 60 buck range.... check out Randy at RPM.... he is on this list and does us all a huge discount on parts.

Kookaloo!

Hey, I didn't post a link! That was what all the fuss was about - the posting of links.

Far as I can see (and unless I get spanked again ;) ), if I'm helping another member they can take it to Snivelers Anonymous. (http://i37.tinypic.com/25oyp9i.gif)
