Hey all,
Picked up a 89 FJ1200 last month after being off two wheels for four years. This will be my 4th Yamaha, first one that will be....personalized. 1st overall bike was a PIA 85 Suzuki GS550, then had a great 76 CB750F (added dual disc from a 76 GL, then a 98 CBR900RR (Fireblade). Did my stint with the whole marriage thing, now I'm back to being me. Raised on the back of CB350, so 4 cylinder bikes are my thing. Before bikes I drag raced a 56 Ford Victoria for 10 years, BB429, quickest was 10.80. Then I found bikes and my love for corners. I hate bikes with bad brakes and ones that are extremely efficient at converting gas into noise. I am all about efficienc and function.
Enough about me, let's talk about the bike and get up to speed. She has 40k miles on it, looks like she's had a low side to the left that was repaired. I picked an FJ because you guys raved about its reliability andpower. Started looking at them because they are air cooled (easier to work on) and a steel frame (I can't weld aluminium). This riding season is purely just going to be getting her back into good running form. I'll checkout her personality and see how she wants to be modified. There is a paint job that will happen (you'll understand when I upload the PO's personal tastes).
Forks are getting new seals and dust covers this weekend. I was going to do springs, but didn't feel comfortable putting money into a bike I know little about. She has all the plastic still, so I don't know what's lurking underneath. Doing and oil change, check for metal, flush the clutch and do the brakes.
Welcome back mate, picked the best bike to start over with, , pics are good, we like fj porn :good2:
Welcome to the group. Having an 89', you will find that the brakes are very easily upgraded to modern day standards.

Doing the SS lines first, already keep an eye on the market for a complete front end swap, love gold USD forks.
Welcome to the group!
I'm sure you will find the FJ just wants to transport you in comfort safety and style...... willingly allowing you to personalize/upgrade/modify while supplying the exact (or more) amount of KOokaloo necessary for a balanced earthly existance!

Middle of the US. Turn left at the big oak tree at the top of the hill and go for about two miles.

Bought her with the full intention of doing mods, I've been told I have a problem w/ leaving well enough alone.

Now, back to work, then checking out the FAQ's on the forum to figure out how to upload photots.
Pics are up in my gallery
Welcome aboard and congrats... On both the bike and the sanity. A lovely bartender friend of mine told me that she knew I wasn't married. I asked her how and she said "because you seem happy all the time". Keep the shiny side up, or at least at a decent lean angle.
Oh, and just checked out your pics..good looking FJ, but, yeah, you gotta make the graphics your own..

It's only a disease if it causes problems. I view it as a modification of the DNA through petroleum products.
