Just got a new ignition switch from Randy. My stock one sometimes would not let the key go in. I sprayed a little TRi-Lube in there but did not seem to help. Something I don't need out in the middle of nowhere or out in the middle of somewhere. Got the tubular keyset as it was only a few dollars more.
Can I install this without taking off my fairing? 84-1100 Haven't gone out to look at things yet.
Hi Bigbore.
You can take the tripletree top plate or "crown" (12)off to change the ignition switch.Remove the handle bars, loosen the fork clamp bolts(13) on the top plate & remove the large nut(7) on the tripletree stem.Might be easier with the petrol tank off.No need to remove the faring.

Hope this helps :drinks:

Yep, just as Jeff said.... I had to take my tank off to get to the connector plug.
Randy's units are plug and play.
Thanx for the quick replies, except I have tried to remove the handlebars/top forkclamp before and could not get the handlebars off. After removing the handlebar clamp setbolt, I even used a screwdriver to put pressure in the slit to spread it a little more and still could not get the bars out. Is there something I am overlooking here.
There is a little black plug on the triple clamp. Under that plug is an allen head screw that you have to remove to get the bars off. I believe that it is about a 4 or 6 mil. wrench. Big R
Hmmmm sounds complicated, when I fitted the same ignition, I joined a few long extension bars together and undone the two bolts from undereath, "1/4" ratchet set, 10mm socket I think :scratch_one-s_head:

Huh, that's easy for you guys in Aus'...everythings upside down and easier to get to, down under :rofl2:  ...
Hey, Tiger that's a good one. Maybe a bit of a cheap shot but still a good one    :rofl2: :rofl2:
Too bloody true mate, makes things much easier ,
I went with the extensions approach- needed to use a swivel between the 10mm and extension to get the angle right with the socket. Was easy, plug and play. Thanx fj11.5 for that. big r, i found that little black plug for the triple clamp but looking at the exploded pic posted, it is not shown there either. No wonder I had a problem before. I will need to get that off someday and is good to know how to now. thanx again- owe you all a beer
No worries mate, easier than taking half the front end off :good2:,, oh, and ill have a mountain dew :drinks:
