There are lot of posts on various forums (e.g., advrider) that are touting the effectiveness of using pine-sol as a carb cleaner. Non-toxic, doesn't harm gaskets, seals, etc., rinses away with water, does a great job. Just google it and there are reams of links.
Thinking of using it on the '87 as the idle circuits seems to be clogged. All info points to giving it a try.
Anyone give this a go?

I was sceptical, a year or so back, soooo I took a spare set of Yamaha Vision down draft carbs, striped one down and put all the parts in a big 'candy' jar full of original Pine Sol (not the lemon or any other version/make!!) and left them on the shelf in my shop for 24 hours...came back to them the next evening and with a wee nail brush, a water hose and compressor, cleaned and dried everything...VOILA!!!
It works really well...no harsh solvents, flash point, cheap and readily available, etc, etc :good:
However, I still think a good old fashioned solvent in an ultra sonic cleaner is the best way to go :scratch_one-s_head: ... it keeps the wife away from my shop!!! :rofl2: :rofl: :lol:... :biggrin:

I've used Amway LOC and water in a heated Harbor Freight heated Ultrasonic cleaner with great results.
No stink. Just rinse with hot water and blow dry with compressed air.. Even works great on brake and clutch master cylinders..
Probably would work. I always like non-toxic cleaners that don't hurt rubber or gaskets. I did some internet searching when I cleaned my carbs and settled on lemon juice. I bought a pan from the thrift store that fit the carbs still together. Simmered them on the stove for 30 minutes and it took all the varnish off. Rinsed and blew out the passages . Before the slides would not move at all, after I could get them all to move with the linkage with ease.
