I use these for conspicuousness (is that really a word??) but not so much to brighten things up.  I had good results adding a relay to my OEM lamp for better night vision.

Here's the switch - located above the start switch - for the aux lights (again, relay is a must):

I used a cheap set of surplus halogen lights and replaced with 55W bulbs with a 12 LED bulb.  Mounted on the frame.

Picture is with the halogens. LEDs are bluer and about half as bright; two 55W light's was too much with heated grips & electric vest.

Hi there.

Mine are similar to Fjflyer (bike too!)
55w H3 switched on with hi beam.More of a flood than a spot light.

$20 cheapies from walmart.  +wiring +relay

They are attached at the disabled antidive bolt hole.   I intended to have them add an oddball night time setup to increase my visibility to other drivers.  They are not set to light up the road at speed, but can be helpful at parking lot speed/distance.   I run the relay on signal from the tail light, so effectively, key on.  A couple of picts at http://www.public.asu.edu/~vansanfo/fj/ (http://www.public.asu.edu/~vansanfo/fj/)

Installed these lights a few years ago. $20 at Princess Auto for the set which included the switch and relay.

Right now I just have 20W bulbs installed. They seem to give enough light to be noticed and to add a bit of spread to the light produced by the headlight. Thinking about trying LEDs which I believe are available at Home Depot. Much less current draw for the same amount of light.

Dang, I keep forgetting to check. Hopefully, this afternoon.  Also, here is the bracket I made to mount them.

Cool, I just bought a set from WalMart for 18.95. 55 watt units with fuse, wiring, switch (which is junk) and hardware.

Ok, finally had a chance to dig this up.  They are Hella Optilux 1500 lights with 55w bulbs.  Found them online for cheap.

I have found a good source of lights to be Cree bicycle headlamps. They are mostly 30 - 40mm in diameter and will fry your eyeballs if you look into them.
Most are up to 1800 lumens with some up to 8000.

Should be info in the files section,,but basicly its a relay inline with your headlight, to allow the full voltage to the light so it functions better  (popcorn)
