Title: Fuel line
Post by: Picopower on April 08, 2013, 02:37:06 PM
Question, I'm replacing my fuel lines and am wondering if anyone knows how long the line from petcock
Is for my 85 fj1100' mine is short. It measures 14 inches. And that's not off the ground.
It's prob not short by much but it's very difficult to remove tank while keeping it attached.
Also my petcock dribbles fuel when on run position, and I don't think it should.
Thanks
Pico

Hi Pico.

The fuel line has to be short due to limited space between the tank and the carbs. If its too long or incorrectly routed its likely to kink and you will have fuel starvation issues.Mine is just long enough to raise the rear of the tank about 10 centimeters/ 4 inches and chock it up to get at the fuel line clamp for removal.I believe your petcock is vacuum operated and should only allow fuel to flow on the run position when the engine is running applying a vacuum to the diagpraghm. It might require rebuilding (new oring) or replacement.

Hope this helps  :drinks:

On the 84 to 87 the line routs around the top of carb #2, I pop the line out from the carb and now have room to lift the tank more and remove the line. Not sure if fuel pump route the same.

Fuel pump line is routed completely differently.... across top of airbox, down the side to the pump.

This is probably why mine will keep flowing fuel, I put a inline shut off, just before the carbs, Maybe a new petcock is in order?
