I installed a set of Hella Supertones on my TDM850. The FJ will be getting a set next, but here's a short video clip of them in action.  I couldn't lay on them too long or I'd go  they are so loud.  Search words: horn, horns, db, LOUD.

preaching to the choir brother... supertones when combined with a quick trigger thumb are really nice for alerting stoopid cagers of your presence.
shock and awe!
why both on the one side?  did you put another set on the other side?
KOokaloo!

Is there any other options to replace the existing horn for something reasonably louder with not much moding involved? Mine just sucks big time!

an air horn fits great in the space left by the airbox, , one of the small units with compressor built in,  put out about 138db from my fuzzy memory

Get a piezo alarm siren meant for car or home alarm systems.
These are up to 130 Db and only draw a single amp so you don't need a relay.
I made a bracket and installed mine in the same place the stock horn lived.

These are marketed under many names and are very popular because of their compact size. A lot of people cite reliability problems with them but I find if you lubricate them regularly they are terrific, as Rod said, around 140 db's. It REALLY hurts my ears if I use it without my ear plugs in.

If you are patient, or more to the point, stubborn and have a welder, drill press, angle grinder, steel strap, long spindly fingers, a third hand, x-ray vision, cigarette papers for measuring clearance and a day of your life to waste, you can fit them where the original horn sits.

Finished installing horns yesterday, UFO brand, got them off ebay for about $30. Very loud, look like the Supertones about half the cost.   :good2:

I might just have to look into installing something like this.
Lady friend and I went for a ride last Saturday night in one of the heavily "touristed" areas of town (International Drive, out towards Disney World). Some WANKER decided they wanted my lane, and didn't EVEN look to see if it was already occupied. No mishap, but it was CLOSE! We then decided to wander back to the ranch for some homemade beef stew.
A loud horn would have been the ticket. My current stock horn is more like a sick sheep-bleat, and only works sometimes! I'll add it to the fix-n-repair list.

I think the saying is something like "loud horns save lives", or something like that :).  It's not usually my first line of defense but it's good to have it as an option, and I have used it to save my skin and not just to blow off steam.

Steve I am taking your advise on second clutch spring, take my advise on new horns, add a relay ($6.00 from raidoshack) to give plenty of power from battery. They hurt my ears giving them a quick blast in the garage, you will be glad you did.

+1 on these :good2: They work really well on street or highway. I think I paid around $25.00 for a new set for mine last year...A great 'upgrade' from the OEM  :good: The hardest part was making sense of the chinese instructions ... which were totally useless!!!

Hey John, where did you end up stuffing it? Is there room where the old one was?

If you re-read John's post, this was under the picture:
