Got yer work cut out for you!
I'm entirely envious of your lift though, that'll make it a load easier.
There was a line in the book, "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" about a guy picking up a Hardley in pieces like this. The narrators' perspective was that he'd know just about all there was to know about the bike once he had it assembled.
And so will you.
Have fun!
Dan
1st fridge+beer. Any mods e.g.swingarm? Have fun.

my 3cv also was full of crap as well and it ran very hot after the filter was cleaned out did not get hot again
Do you intend to replace the shift forks, and undercut second gear while the motor's out? Seems like it would prudent, unless you know it's already been done. Be a shame to have to pull the motor once it's in and running.

Is that gunk (pieces) in the oil pick-up a common in these bikes?
in the two i have checked both had crap in them the other one was very bad
so worth checking

It looks like gasket goop. I just had the clutch cover off my bike and you can see the over application of gasket maker used to hold the gaskets in place. Mine was not to bad, but if it was excessive throughout the engine I can see how you would have so much in the pickup screen. Just seeing that in your screen makes me want to pull my oil pan and check the screen.

no this was done over Christmas holiday
Man, you kick ass!
Wow, those elbows must be a blur. Check out my vid under the mods section - 17 inch conversion. You'll see I didn't go anywhere near as far as you've gone with yours.
Just that project took me a full 7 days, plus a half day to fix any last issues after the first ride.
I see by the billboard of a rear number plate, you could be in England. I used to live in East Anglia - suffolk
sometime this week the fork parts should come from Mr yamaha so i can rebuild the forks
then i will start to look around for an exhaust !!
so what would you fit
4-2-1
or should i go for
4-2-2
i have no clue
or what make to fit
not to noisy but better performance
I know they are pricey but might be so bad for you in England..... Staintune 4/2 system
or a 4/2/1 system will let you hang onto the low end torque as well as a 4/2 system
KOokaloo!

Thank you for the pictures.
I want to ask what you use to clean up the outside of the motor and get back to pre-paint mode. One of the picts looks like a sand blaster in the background. Any other chemistry you would like to endorse? Words of inspiration?? Thanks for saving one of the breed, good on ya! :drinks:
Thanks for the inspiration! Looks great!
Another question - what paint did you use for the frame? Have you used it on other projects? How does it hold up to use?
Thanks,
Chris
Well done,check the frame??
Final colour??

well i would like to say all sorts of new stuff you put on and leave for 20 Min's and wash off looks like new and re paint sorry it was hrs and hrs rubbing down with anything that would do the job and brake and clutch cleaner but with lots of work its looks good and the paint was just some engine high temp gloss spray paint

Hiya Elbows, love your work !! Quick question, from the pics it looks like you had to ditch the centre stand to fit the FJR zorst. Is that right, or did you manage to get it back on.
Looking for a new 4-1 for mine, but would prefer to keep the stand.
Cheers, Dazza
