Hey fellas. Is there a thread on setting up the cam timing? I searched but had no luck.
I'm sure there's a small trick that I can use to get things lined up and not have the position off by one tooth continuously. I don't want to bother Randy so I hope there's a post on it already.

i could be wrong, been awhile since i did mine, but crank timing at tdc and cams lined up so you can see the dots/punch marks through the holes on #3 cam caps
Right, 11.5, thanks - I shoulda been clearer. I was having a frustrating time keeping everything lined up upon install of the cam chain tensioner; IOW, it all looked good until the slack was taken up on the chain, and then once that happened the notch on the rotor was off the mark.
So I figured there was a helpful hint floating around. But I continued to dick with it until it was happy at last. So all's well now, but I imagine others have the same situation ... unless they're smarter than the average bear, that is.

Once you have tensioned it up and it is out by a tooth, take note of which way it is out, loosen everything off and anticipate that when you next engage the sprockets and chain. Then when you tighten everything up it should be spot on.
Presumeably you know where the timing marks are (you know you are out by a tooth)
