Title: New from Alberta, Canada
Post by: Lightspeed on April 06, 2013, 02:05:21 PM
Just bought an 86 FJ1200 from my big brother. I've admired it for many years and now that he's moved on to a Goldwing, I asked to buy the FJ. Looking forward to riding this sporting classic. I haven't ridden in years, so will be approaching this with a lot of respect.

Welcome to the group. Having bought it from your brother, you will have continued first hand knowledge of any quirks you may encounter. Plus with this group you will have decades of cumulative knowledge that is easily obtained from fellow members.

Welcome to the group ! The FJ is a mighty fine ride. Post some pictures when you get some time and don't hesitate to ask questions.

Welcome to the group!

Take your time getting back into riding..... you may even consider a riding school to help you get the cobwebs off before getting out on the road with the crazies!

KOokaloo!

Thanks everyone for the greetings and advice,
It looks like a great group here, I 'm definitely going to learn a lot.
Yep, will be carefully getting my chops back.
I have to say, it's already going to be a short riding season in Alberta. Right now I'm looking out the window at 5-inches of snow that fell  this weekend. Will likely be snow around until mid May.

Hi Jeff,
I am in Edmonton. Of course I'll be looking to enjoying visiting Banff and taking highway 22 south of Calgary. I'll drop you a PM.

first year fj1200 was made, you will slowly grow to absolutly love this motorcyle as I did when I bought one new in 1986. I have not had a motorcycle in 15 years(mariage, children, morgage)
but I just now have purchased a 1992 fj1200 abs model and plan on loving this fantastic motorcycle once again.

Thanks again everyone.
Have been riding the FJ for a couple weeks now and thought I would give a re-introduction of sorts. Really enjoying this excellent motorcycle. I am calling it my new "dance partner" as I am learning argentine tango right now and that too is all about balance and weight change. I am amazed at the power and precise handling for so large a machine. It's like the bike wants you to be very smooth, but with a strong, steady hand. I can see how well it must respond to the modifactions available and how the rider can tailor it to their style. I'll leave it stock for this year ($) but, want to upgrade the brakes and seating for next year. Kookaloo!
