Title: Num. 3 cylinder cut out ?????
Post by: thunder1295 on April 05, 2013, 05:52:35 PM
Need some help on this, Was out riding the other day, bike was running great and just as I got home it bogged down and died, pushed it up the drive way, engine cooled off restarted it with choke, won't idle and the num. 3 exhaust pipe does'nt get warm at all so that cylinder isn't running.

Any idea what might have happened???

Going to drain the tank and but first open the drain screw in the num.3 carb see if there is fuel in there and if so then check the plug and see if there is a spark, any other ideas on what it might be.

Thanks

An easy check is to swap the #3 and #4 spark plugs. Run the bike and see if the problem moves. If it does, then you have a bad plug. If it does not, I would check the #3 plug wire and then the coil.

Easier yet...

Since there are only two coils you can swap 2&3 spark plug wires and see if the problem moves to #2.

If the problem moves it is spark problem, if not then it fuel or something else.

One other ? do the spark plug cap have resistors built into them or just normal caps?  my Xj seca had resistor caps.

It is my understanding that, yes they are resistor caps. Randy lists them. Wires are solid core.

No more problem, turned out to be a bad plug, no spark at all, changed all 4 be on the safe side. Running great again.
