Title: Just to say hello
Post by: crzyjarmans on April 02, 2013, 12:09:54 PM
Hello everyone, just wanted to introduce myself, My name is Shawn, I just recently bought my 87 FJ1200, Found it on the internet for $500.00, It runs really good, but has some minor problems, A fuel leak that turned out to be just a lose fuel line  :good: Now the speedometer went out, and found one on the net for $120. + $15. s+h, Should be here Friday, Hopefully, this will be the last thing for a while.

A little about me, I'm a truck driver by trade, but have been laid off since Dec 28 2012, but have been wrenching on vehicle's at my house to keep the bills paid :dash2: man I hate wrenching, I have been riding motorcycles for more than 30 years, and there isn't any other vehicle I rather be driving or riding, I also love to golf, Golf and I have a love/hate relationship, I love to play it, and it hate me to play  :good: thanks for listening (reading) to my rambling, Shawn

Welcome Shawn, it's a good group. I joined last year, they have helped me in many ways. Always offering good advice and they will also tell you if you're heading in the wrong direction. I raced  moto x as a kid, have rode bikes all my life since 13. To date this is best group I have I have seen. Again welcome.

Lady luck finally knocked on my door, Although it needs a little TLC, I put new tires on, the horn is not working, it's getting power to the horn, but still wont work, bought a new horn and still nothing, and I got a instrument cluster on the way, There are some cracks in the fairing, and the windshields got a crack, But it does run good, Hopefully in a few months I have everything fixed, or replaced

ONR of the horn wires gets power all the time.  The horn button completes the ground side of the circuit.  Your problem is probably with the button.

Hook up the horn "power" wire and run a wire from the other horn connector to ground.  If the horn makes noise, trace the wire back to the switch looking for an open circuit or maybe just dirty contacts on the horn switch.

Welcome,
DavidR.

Welcome Shawn!

I had to go thru a couple of horns before I bought an aftermarket horn from Dennis kirk.com. I bought their loudest horn (PIAA Slimline Sports Horn - 76501 for $69.00).  The tone is a bit weird, but people know I'm there!

Got the horn working, dirty contacts, but the horn isn't that loud, would like it to be a bit louder, Just so that other will know I'm there if the need arises, I check out the sight you posted, thanks to all for the help and tips

you can get more noise out of the standard horn by fitting a relay to it,, should be info in the files section
