Title: clutch slave
Post by: big r on March 28, 2013, 09:39:48 PM
Doe's anyone have some good pics of the clutch slave piston with the seals installed. I just rebuilt mine and I think I screwed up somewhere :dash1: :dash1:. Got it all back together and proceeded to bleed it and it started to leak again.  :dash2: :dash2: I put new braided lines on and am using dot 5 fluid. I have another set of seals just in case I screwed these ones up. Any help is appreciated :flag_of_truce :unknown:

Morning Men. I found some pictures of the slave. Looks like I put it together the right way, so maybe I damaged the seal when I put the piston back into the cylinder. :good2: I will take it apart again and install the new set of seals that I have. Not real happy about the delay , but oh well. The weather is supposed to be great this weekend, highs of 20c. I won't be able to insure the bike until t Tuesday because of the long weekend. Pulled it out of the shed yesterday so I could work on it a little easier. Have a great Easter weekend everybody. Big R

Randy at RPM has nice, new ones that work a treat!

How much is your time and frustration worth?

It's not just a question of replacing the seal. You must make sure that you clean out the groove that it sits in. The previous owner of mine renewed the seal without cleaning this groove. That's why I had to repeat the job, been OK since. :good2:

if the slave housing is worn it will still leak,  and wear out the seal faster, , have one on my standard 84 thats done the same

By ease- the outer  its only four components outer seal, piston, inner seal and spring. Clean the grove before assemble the new parts. Then it will not leak.

The piston was to corroded  and the bore was out of round. Got a new one from Randy and now it works like a charm. Big R

I kind of went through the same thing. This winter I just bought a new one from Randy and now it works fine. In 20 plus years the cylinder just needs to be replaced. My cylinder was a little out of round and had some corrosion from what I suspect was water settling down in the bottom during winter storage's or prolonged inactivity from PO's. Anyhow it feels good to know that a new one is in place and probably will not fail me when out on the road.
You did good by replacing it.
