I have been toying with the idea of the spin on oil filter for a bit but am yet to be convinced by its 'look'. Now I am in no way questioning the practical advantages, but given that I have a persistent weep from by my left foot (clutch has been sorted so I'm sure it's not that!) I'm considering replacing the oil and filter, so 'when in Rome' and all that.
If you have done it can you post up some pictures here. I know the type of filter used will have an impact on its look. I think my reservation revolves around how far it 'sticks out'. I have had a trawl through the galleries but there only a few good pics, and there are loads of pics to trawl through!!

I only enjoy the practical side of the spin on adapter 2 or 3 times a year, but the "look" I enjoy everytime I walk up to the bike!
It actually looks much better, every thing on that side of the motor is cylindrical anyway, it matches, looks like it was made to blend in and does not stick out too far.
Forget about easier oil changes, it worth the money just for the bling factor and if for some odd reason you still don't like the look when fitted you would have no trouble on selling it here.

I had my doubts about how it would look too. But for me, it's always function over form, and it's beauty is it's function. I won't go into detail on the practical aspects but this is what my bike looks like...

The spin on oild filter adapter was the very first mod I performed. I have nothing negative to say about it. Different manufacturers of filters have different colors. Randy sells the Wix brand (Black), I have used a Royal Purple filter (Purple) and a Fram (Sliver with a black end). I have seen a photo on here of someone that had a White filter.

Love mine... Looks great. Simple to change the filter. NAPA Premium/Gold filters are WIX filters and are black. I buy 2 at time and always have one on hand. No more o ring to leak, no more pinching the wiring also causing an oil leak and not nearly as messy to change. If you don't like black , white or purple you can always bug bomb it pink :blum2:

Cheers Craigo, looks ok in black. What flavour filter is that you have on? And how far does yours sit proud of the clutch slave? Still not convinced by 'the look' in general but will most prolly go with it more for function than aesthetic. that is unless someone can suggest a super stubby filter that performs just as well but sits in a bit?!?!

The filter is a Bosch 3312 and are ready available at any auto parts store. They also make a lower profile one and that # is 3310
And the biggest advantage to this mod is you have a much better oil filter than that little paper thingie that goes in the case.

The filter I use is the Mobil 1 M1-111 extended performance/high capacity. This is a black filter and looks on the bike like the one craigo has in the pic. Wix, Purolator are about 95% efficient in removing particles down to a certain size. In the same test, Mobil 1 filters are about 99% efficient in removing the same size particles. [This test I got a few years ago online and am using what is left of my memory to mislead you- i said this because of FJMonkey's influence on me] You will pay more for Mobil, twice the cost of Wix and Purolator. I use Wix or Purolator in my cars. But for my bike....... There are other Mobil 1 filters that are much shorter that won't stick out as far that will work just as well for you. All one needs is the seal on the end of the filter to mate with the spin-on adapter flange.. That is a simple measurement so you can pick out out a proper fitting filter.
