Had my original mirrors fixed up yesterday. Wasnt supposed to be 2 but it ended up that way after a goof up from the glass company. The left mirror had part of the reflector rubbed / scratched off. I removed the mirror to realize that it had something loose and weighty inside. Took it to the glass place and picked it up a day later. The boss came up to me and handed me 2 pieces of steel.approx 50 x 35mm x 5mm thick. Said they were loose and didnt know why they were there. I had no idea either. i took it home put it back on the bike and then started up. The mirror shook like hell. The other one was ok???? I removed both only to find the right one had the same problem. Pieces internally that come adrift. I weighed both mirrors. Left with out the metal blocks light as. Placed the mirror with metal pieces on to it on the scales to find that it weighed the same as the right. Turns out that both mirrors have counterweights in them to stop the vibrations. Had them both done and now back on the bike and perfect. Only cost $30. Yeah I know I could have put CBR mirrors on but not at the moment. I got put off work and not much $ to spare. So It will do for now. Just have to get her on the road. Its a time thing. A long time. Little steps. Its slowly getting there. Soon it will be all worth it. Until then, just Keep on tinkering.
I thought about drilling a hole in the bottom and filling the mirror cavity with silicone glue/sealant. It will add weight that wont fall off and rattle around.

Jeff, you do realise my CBR mirrors cost $18 incl postage, and I'm very happy with them.
Long before I changed them over, I cut the bottom out of my standard mirrors with a jigsaw and glued the weights back to the glass.
I duct taped over the holes until I could fill them properly and realised that you couldn't see it anyway, so I just left the tape there.

Thanks Mark. My brother is a machinist and has a lathe and milling machine in his shop at home. I think I can get him to make me a couple of these :yahoo:

So much better than an apex bit stuffed under the mirror base. Nice.
Myself, I run '04 GSXR 600/750 mirrors. Perfect. Just that specific model, though. Not 03 gsxr 1000 mirrors. There look similar in pictures, but the angles are wrong. Don't ask me how I know.

You really could use a 3D printer. The stuff you design for adapter plates and what not could be really useful to a lot of us metally challenged members. :good2:

If I had a 3D printer I might never have time to ride.... Too much stuff to design, problems to solve. The trouble I would get into with an auto loading potato cannon that deploys from one of the sides bags. A radar stealth FJ maybe...

And on that note, how expensive would a 3D printer with a hopper (due to a lack of what to call it) big enough to make a fairing for our FJs cost? And not just fairings, but any part necessary to replace those unobtainable items as needed? Just wondering here as I am beginning to smell an opportunity.
Mark, are you up to speed on what this technology cost? I know it takes a bit of time to make a part, but is this feasible?

That would be a size vs material/size cost... ABS is easy, the cost for the size, not so much...
Yeah, I was just doing some research and see units of any size and quality starting at $16k.... Plus materials and someone with the skills to use it to it's potential. The build envelops are too small to make a complete fairing in one pass.
