I had the offer of a suzuki GSXR rear wheel I think it was a 2008 model. I know that the 1992 model is what seems to be recommended. My concern with the one on offer is the rim is a 6 inch rim. I said no to the offer but then he said it came with a swing arm and calipers as well. Still said no ! I dont really want to have the hassle of the swing arm and extra agro. My question is what size rim will be the best in terms of width and less agro. I also thought that the chain angle would have an impact as well being a wide rim. Also the odd look compared to the front. My tyres need changing so I either consider the chore now or stick with 16s. Am in no hurry as yet. Also is it necessary to change the front rim as well even though mines 17 inch stock.

No idea if the 2008 Suzuki swingarm could be modified to work. The GSXR 17" Rear Wheel mod is well documented on here. Plus many of us have actually done the mod. It is very easy and simple. No more difficult than pulling the stock wheel off and re-installing it. The front wheel can remain the stock size. The easiest and most common front wheel swap is to use a 87/88 FZR 1000 front wheel. Do not use a 89'/90' FZR 1000 wheel. The axle diameter is not the same. There are 2 reasons to do the rear wheel mod. 1. much better choice for tire sets. 2. the handleing improves.

Ebay.com.au. $500 advertised as 2 wheels ( both polished) only but if not sold he will split and pair the rear wheel with the swing arm and wheel/caliper and stay. HITCH73 is the seller Id. To complicated for my liking. 6 inch wheel. It would look keen as hell. I think its located in NOWRA NSW.

Keeping the chainline straight would probably require you to use the XJR transmission output shaft (and C/S cover) and maybe also do some machining of the cush drive. Plus whatever machining you might have to do to get the swingarm in there and connect a rear shock to it.
I'm sure you could do it, you just might need a BIG hammer to get it all to fit.

I like the 5.5 inch rims I've had on my 89. I think a 5 inch rim is plenty too 170 or even 160 sized tire.
No experience with the GSXR stuff, but here is how I put a 6 inch rim on the dragbike:
The swingarm is an FZ1 swingarm extended 0-6" and narrowed to fit the FJ frame. It uses an R1 6" rear rim. The rim sits all the way to the left in the arm, but is still offset to the right in the swingarm. By taking the entire 8mm cut off the left side of the swingarm, it centered the tire in the frame. Still have to confirm the chain alignment, but it looks like it may be good with just the TRAC offset countershaft sprocket.
The TRAC sprocket worked great (also available from PMI I think). Dud have to use the XJR clutch push rod & sprocket cover to clear the offset sprocket.
Decided against that wheel . To much mucking around. Simple is best. Forget the rest

Use the 170 with a 5" rim. IMO, you'll like it a lot better than the 160. :good:
