I'm very new to these bikes and had one fall in my lap recently. I was told the chain broke. The sprocket cover is missing but I have found a couple chunks of it. I started the bike today for the first time. I noticed the oil coming out. I took some pictures and I hope you guys can tell me what is missing so I can pick one up. These pictures are taken of the left side by the sprocket.
The bike is an 86 FJ1200

This is where the oil came from. The round part facing you. what goes here?
Here is another shot back a bit. What else do you see that is missing? I know the cover. Anything else you can see would help as well.
You appear to be missing the drive chain. :-)
Also, your clutch actuation rod is gone. That's the source of your oil leak.

The chain HAHA :drinks:
thanks for the tip on the clutch rod, I google away.

Thanks for the link, it backs up what I found when I looked. It shows the rod as discontinued, does anyone have one laying around they don't need?

Check with Randy at RPM www.rpmracingca.com (http://www.rpmracingca.com), he is our FJ parts Go-To guy.
Check the POs cat.

And if the rod is missing, you may want to go ahead and get the ball. Just in case it's part#26.
Hope this helps,

How do I get this out??? :flag_of_truce:
I ordered the new one and a new ball too. Is there anything I need to know about the change out? Like don't drop the ball or something? But first..I need to get the half that's in there out!!
First things first mate........get some degreaser and give that whole area a cleanup. Looks like you also have a broken bolt in the hole above the pushrod. The seal is almost certainly cactus too.
You are probably going to have to dismantle the clutch form the other side of the motor to get that sucker out of there...... good time to inspect the fibre plates and steels, and maybe install a new pressure spring.
Do you have a manual?
If that's the clutch pushrod I can see the end of you can draw it out with a magnet, it offers no resistance. If it's burred over where it's broken, pop the seal out, it will be knackered anyway then you can grab hold of it.
There is nothing holding it in there.
Noel
Ahha...there you go, no need to get it from the other end....thanks Noel!

No manual other than what I look up on-line. The hole your talking about is a chunk missing from when the chain broke. I'm not to that part yet :music:

Alright thanks for the info, Guess I'll be picking up a magnet. Wanted to make sure there wasn't a pesky spring or a bottomless hole to drop the ball in.

One of our members, Gareth, posted service manuals. Down side is, it's 2 files to get the whole manual, odd and even pages. Such fun...

If that case is broken, then I really hope you got a smokin deal on that bike. :-)
DavidR.
This is all very good sensible advice and should be followed, what the rest of us do is
1) forget that the clutch master is off the bike
2) start the motor
3) watch the rod, ball bearing and copious amount of oil spew everywhere
From what I can see you have several advantages you have a new ball bearing and rod so you don't need to find the old ones wherever they went
and
apparently you don't have a cat :rofl2:

Following Step #2 will solve the problem of getting the clutch pushrod out, though the cat may indeed be in danger.
I have it on good authority that the ball bearing will not be lost. :pardon:

Inside joke from an old posting related to the same problem.. Starting engine, blowing out the rod and oil into the unsuspecting cat... Helps if you put a dish of warm milk and tuna in just the right spot so the cat will stay put while you start the engine :)).

UPDATE: It's still stuck in there. I have tried JB Welding a rod to it, superglueing rods to it, I can't drill or weld to it. Very frustrating :dash1:

In about 30 minutes or so, you could pull the clutch cover off and get in there and remove it.
