Post by: fj11.5 on February 03, 2013, 03:19:15 AM

( kookaloo activated ) ect ,

Sorry to hear about your loss.

Cool custom cluster, where'd it come from? Any difficulties, or was it just plug-and-play? I mean, it's digital, surely you had to install a little magnetic pick-up and ditch the cabledrive, yeah?

I really wish I could see a video of effie, or at least more pictures. Your profile picture there isn't enough.

if i can offer some friendly advice.... pick up another magnet and run two on the brake rotor (halve the diameter in the computer) .....it will make the speedo read and react much faster.

looks great!

The digital speedo/tach looks awesome. I found a few on eBay, but only KPH. Hopefully I can find one in MPH. I am pulling my FJ down to rebuild the head this week. While that is geting done, I may purchase and install this mod.

as quickly as the FJ can accelerate and decelerate i've found a fast reacting speedo to be most helpful in avoiding unplanned encounters with the police  :good2:

you can also do 4 magnets and 1/4 the diameter in the computer but i've found two magnets to work plenty fast enough to keep up with the FJ's capabilites.

It could be one of these, it can be set for MPH or Kph

During cold start up's, the bike smokes like a mosquito truck. Also burns a quart of oil in 500 miles. Going to have the valve stem seals and valve guides replaced and check the condition of the valves, springs and valve seats. While it is apart a good look at the cams, cam chain and pull the oil pan cover, I am pretty sure that there is some old sludge laying in there. Install the RPM oil filter magnet and magnetic drain plug.

The bike is showing 34,500 miles. I have put about 1000 of those miles on it. I know that the bike has been wrecked at some point, ie. a Salvage Title is what I have for it. I can't say for certain if the mileage stated is true.

How are things going with these gauges? Have you managed to get them operational?
They look pretty good and a cheap option if they work. :good2:

hey, yes had them working in the pic, only thing that may be out is the speedo,  as it takes a second or so to re,act when slowing,  and seems it cant be adjusted

thats why you need the second magnet on the brake rotor  :good2:

huh?   Dont you have to enter the wheel diameter (in millimeters) into the computer to calibrate it to the size wheel you're running?   I've never seen a digital speedometer that was only for one size tire/wheel.

I'd be very surprised if a yellowbox or speedohealer wouldn't do the job of giving you options for rollout corrections.

Seems like a really dumb decision on their part though.
