Title: Long time owner - new to the forum
Post by: wm_Reed on January 15, 2013, 08:19:59 PM
Hello All,
Original owner of my 89 FJ1200W here in Richmond VA.  Purchased her in 1991 as a factory holdover.  Great bike.  Rode my first FJ in 1985 in Hawaii.

Monitored many forums over the years and mostly just enjoyed riding my bike.  No mods to speak of until recently.  Daughter gave me a nice present for Christmas and dropped my bike (decided to move it in garage)....... gets worse as it was a twofer as the bike hit my car!!  This is the 1st accident or ever touching the ground for this bike.

1st real change to the bike is the mirror modification due to my Christmas present.   Installed aftermarket CBR600 mirrors.  Slight mod to new mirror mounting brackets and I can now see more than my elbows.

Thanks for all the great advice over the years (yes I was busy studying many FJ sites).

Respectfully,
wm_reed

Welcome to the group. Not many original owners, you are in a very select group.  :hi:

Welcome, sounds like you need to attend an East Coast Rally and meet up with fellow FJ owners. If you like the forum then imagine being around a campfire with these guys. Now that you have your first modification you have to be real careful, it quickly gets addictive. Now your thinking that the CBR mirrors look much better on the bike and to boot you now see past your elbows.... Another simple and early mod is the spin-on oil filter adapter from RPM. Maybe a fork brace to stiffen up the front. Straight rate springs will improve the front end. Straight rate springs with the RPM valves will really improve the front end. Changing your rear wheel to 17" will give you better tire choices. The list goes on. Happy to have another member join us, and an original owner as well.

Welcome to the fire lad. I'm also in Richmond Virginia 91 model owner here. There are a couple of FJ owners in the area, but its tough to get them together for a ride..

All,
Thanks for the warm welcome.

I can see how the modifications can become addictive.  I will place the order for the spin on oil filter. Have always hated that pinchpoint on the sidestand switch wiring. I really like the idea of the handlebar vibrometer as well.

As for replacement of brake lines........just do it or is it best to wait until I upgrade rear wheel and calipers?  Seems like the brake lines can be used on whatever wheel is attached.  Buy brake lines local?

Eric M....we will need to go for a ride this spring (snowing as I type).

Thanks in advance for the great advice.

Just let me know, I look forward to it.. Richmond weather doesn't stay crappy all winter. We can make a 5&10 run almost anytime..
