Title: GPS mount
Post by: Dads_FJ on January 14, 2013, 07:36:29 PM
Mounted my Garmin Nuvi.  This Ram-Mount stuff is cool, but if you decide to purchase stuff go to a distributor like this: http://www.expressmounts.com/ (http://www.expressmounts.com/)  It's cheaper and shipping was free for orders over $25.00.

This looks nice.  I went nearly the same way for the GSX-R but I did not realize that the Ram rubber ball did not attach directly to the Garmin female mount -the one that comes with the GPS itself.  No problem, I cut the rubber bit off and epoxied on the 'correct' mounting ball.

It mounts a bit lower than with the middle piece (that I did not buy)...

I noticed the ball is about the same size used in those old pc mice, thought about incorporating those somehow.  I like the system, it seems to work well.

Is the metal shaft Glued to the Head stem bolt or is it a new bolt? Would like to get one for mine. Is it a full kit? Minus the GPS. regards Jeff

pm sent with this info for the rest of ya'll:

First I ordered these parts for my GPS from www.expressmounts.com (http://www.expressmounts.com) (free shipping):

Ball - http://www.expressmounts.com/search/q=ram-b-273-m6u (http://www.expressmounts.com/search/q=ram-b-273-m6u)

Short arm (but you may like the longer one) - http://www.expressmounts.com/ram-mount-short-arm-b-socket-ram-b-201u-a.html (http://www.expressmounts.com/ram-mount-short-arm-b-socket-ram-b-201u-a.html)

Ball which attaches to a GPS mount - http://www.expressmounts.com/ram-mount-diamond-plate-with-1-inch-ball-ram-b-238u.html (http://www.expressmounts.com/ram-mount-diamond-plate-with-1-inch-ball-ram-b-238u.html)

My specific GPS mount (depends on yoru make/model of GPS) - http://www.expressmounts.com/search/q=ram-hol-ga33u (http://www.expressmounts.com/search/q=ram-hol-ga33u)

Now, remove the large 27mm steering head nut and drill a hole in it so a 6mm bolt will go through from the inside and attach the Ball.  Then re install the nut back on the bike.
