Title: New Mirrors finally arrived from Germany
Post by: aviationfred on December 31, 2012, 04:23:31 PM
My new mirrors came in today. They are quite a bit smaller that the stock mirrors. The view to the rear is a lot better. I am not able to road test them for vibration since it snowing at the moment.

Do you have the website for those mirrors?  They look great.

I will be needing the Dodge to haul the bike to either the spring East Coast Rally or the West Coast Rally. I have not decided which one I will attend.   :unknown:

But Fred, its only a 3 day ride to either coast from Wichita.  That's what those of us from Melbourne area will be travelling on the way to the AussieFJ Rally.  You don't need to truck it there.
You could do it quicker and get yourself into the IronButts thing at the same time ;-)

I have mapped the route to both rally's. WCR is a little over 1700 miles, the ECR is right at 1000. I would love to attempt the Iron Butt and would probably do it on the way to the rally. At the moment my girlfriend is joining me for the rally. She does not ride as a passenger very often and has voiced that she would need to ride in the truck. If I attend solo, I will most likely ride and attempt the Iron Butt.

Why not let her drive the truck, and Iron Butt anyway?    :pardon:

I have had a chance to ride a bit. The consenses is.... I lost a bit of rear viewing area. I see alot of my arms and shoulder. The triangular arm could be 1 1/2" to 2" longer. On the good side, absolutely no vibration at all. Crystal clear view at highway speeds. To answer the question on how adjustable they are. They are very adjustable. They can be adjusted to almost any position at the base and the mirror head is easily rotated to keep them in a level postition.

Fred   they sound like they are original FJ mirrors but rectangular. Fred does this mean the CBR mirrors are a better option or can you adjust the mirror so you can see less of your shoulders and arms. Do the mirror heads have Adjustments so you can lock the position of the head in or is it tight enough that it is hard to move. I'm considering buying some but am hoping you can give us some more details on if its worth while. does this mean the CBR mirrors are a better option or can you adjust the mirror so you can see less of your shoulders and arms. . I can not speak of personal experience on the CBR mirrors. From the members on here that have done the CBR mirror mod, everyone has positive input. Mainly a better view (dramatically less view of your elbows), and aesthetically better looking than the stock FJ mirrors.

The mirrors that I have are as good looking and IMO better looking than the CBR mirrors. The down side is.... you get alot of your elbow to view, even more so than the stock mirrors.

IMO, the CBR mirrors are a better option, they look good, give a good view and a relative easy mod. My mirrors look really slick but the view sucks when compared to the CBR mirrors..
