As preventative maintenance, I am replacing the manifold o-rings. Does anyone know what the mounting bolts are torqued to? I cannot seem to find the values in the Haynes manual. Also, should the o-rings be lubricated with a light coat of oil before mounting?
Thanks a ton,
Dean
The official Yamaha FJ1100-manual states :

I cut the line with the info and pasted it just below the header of the page, otherwise I would have to show the entire page ...
I guess the dimensions of the studs are similar.
The use of some mild grease is ok, if the rings get out of their grooves, the grease will make the rings slide back easier.
I looked in the factory manual and could not find the TQ for the intakes... If they are 6mm I would say start at 5 ft lb and do not exceed 7.2 ft lb. ?
When I replaced mine I took each manifold and put the flat side (o ring side) on a flat surface with a piece of 600 grit sandpaper to check for warpage (especially around the bolt holes), installed the O rings and put a light coat of high temp silicone on the surface then bolted them up. I didn't torque them, I just snugged them down with the usual caution. Once the manifolds are up flat against the head there isn't much point in going a lot farther. Just snug. At least out of memory that's what I did and no problems to date anyhow. Perhaps a drop of Locktight on the bolts to keep them in place ? From your list of bikes I can see you have been around the block a few times :) Have a good holiday season. Maybe someone else will chime in with more accurate info.
I did mine just snug, and lubricated them with DC-4. (Dow-Corning #4 - it's silicone gel) While you're there, I installed mine with stainless female allen bolts from the hardware bins at ACE hardware. (I despise re-installing phillips head screws, one always strips it's head.)
