Title: Hungarian Orphan Christmas Project 2012
Post by: Lotsokids on December 08, 2012, 03:26:45 PM
I'll start this thread to give updates on the Christmas project this year. A handful of you guys (and wives) personally sponsored 19 children in a couple orphanages / safe houses in Bakonynána and Lókút, Hungary.

We got all the funds in and we went shopping today. It took a couple hours to sort, wrap, and tag the gifts, but we did it. I will do my best to get photos of each child so the sponsor can match a face to the gift. I'll post a link to the photos after we deliver the gifts.

Below is a picture of my son with all the gifts we purchased.
The gifts for Bakonynána is on the right (44,000 HUF or $201).
The gifts for Lókút is on the left (47,000 HUF or $215)

Missed this opportunity? There is still a way you can help. We still have not reached our goal for the Christmas candy bags we will be delivering to 6 different orphanages and safe houses. Anything you can do is greatly appreciated.

Again, thank you all for your support. I'll keep you posted.

We just finalized Friday, Dec. 21 for delivery of the gifts to both orphanages.

My wife and I are getting excited. Nothing like this has ever been done like this for these kids.

Here's an update on our Christmas candy bags.

We raised $1,000 for candy! My wife organized a bag-stuffing event at a location downtown and a bunch of her friends helped put the candy into 250 BAGS. Yes, that means there are 250 orphans at 6 locations who will receive these on Christmas morning.

Klavdy sent us some little koala bears that we will clip onto each of the candy bags for the two orphanages you guys are supporting.

Thank you again to everyone who helped.

Today was the first of the gift deliveries - Zirc, Hungary. This safe house was sponsored by my co-workers. They said that a few of these kids were abandoned by their parents, who will not visit them... even when invited during the holidays. I can't even imagine that level of coldness. So this was something special - from complete strangers! Unfortunately, some kids were not there because they ran away. Remember, these are troubled kids from a wrecked home.

Take note of what they asked for... hair tools and body wash! They were VERY thankful. They opened all the gifts today instead of waiting for Christmas.

Heck yes on opening the gifts immediately....No need to have messy hair and stinky pits any longer than necessary!

Its definitely a change in perspective for me.... the things we totally take for granted are treasure for them.

I'm glad they know that there are still good people in this world and I'm thankful we have a lot of real people as part of this group too!    :good2: :good2: :good2: :good2: :good2:

Merry Christmas!

I had been traveling at the time the above was posted, and I did not see it.  I am pleased to see, despite all that was going on at the time, this still went down.  Good people.

Hope the recovery is going, and continues to go, well.

Hey, guys. Today I just got the photos from the other orphanages. I was still in a coma when these photos were taken, so my wife's emotions were high as you can imagine. Unfortunately I could not match names to the photos as I wanted to. Thanks again to those who participated. You made a difference!

Bakonynána

All the kids:

Klavdy's Australian koala bears were attached to the gifts.
