Oh that poor bugger.  Could have been a lot worse if he didn't land on the deck.

I too have forgotten I had large solid fixed panniers on me bike.

Was at a filling station (gassing up), and there was a hell of a queue.  I was sweating buckets and tired, and desperately needing a pee.

So, I was getting impatient with the car drivers who take ages filling up, and THEN go back into the car to look for some sort of payment for the fuel.

JESUS!

I could not wait any longer, so decided to ride the bike round the pumps to get to the public toilets on the other side of the road.

I saw a gap in between 2 cars and thought, that'll do nicely.  So, off I went.

The front end cleared just fine, until I did what that guy in the video did.

Forgot there was extra bits sticking out of the back end.  Only I didn't get to land on a yacht like the guy above.

I just got to trash 2 cars in one go. A left side front and a right side front at the same time, and spat off to sit on the tarmac, in a busy filling station, with everyone now looking to see what the loud crunch was.

I'm happy to report that my bike wasn't damaged.

Hmmm....I wonder what the FJR1300 rider will say to his insurance compancy.

"I was riding, minding my own business, when all-of-a-sudden I landed on the deck of a boat"?

Well, he's always got the video...     :unknown:

If he's in the US, it's time to sue the manufacturer of the post and the dock, and of course,  Yamaha and the owner of the boat.

Personally, I would lie through my teeth to the insurance company (I slipped on diesel/loose road surface etc) and hope the video never lands on their desk afterwards.

There is not a hope in hell that they would pay out for this guys stupidity.  Riding on a pedestrian area only, and without due care and attention.

I dunno who filmed it (was it a test ride by a magazine) or maybe it was filmed by his wife/girlfiend on holiday.

Its a UK video going by the car number plates (not that the location means anything!).

But, back to the insurance claim. it's difficult to get out of, as he can't exactly pick the bike up and quickly ride away.  This would have attracted police and press from miles around.

That'll teach him though.  As it has taught me.  There's nothing like learning stuff the hard way!

Ok, I'd choose the easy way if I could, but sometimes we get complacent on our machines, and think cos we've been riding bikes for years, we are good at it.

I remember a quote from a bike instructor in America:

"Riding a motorcycle for 30 years does NOT give you 30 years of riding experience.  It just means you have been riding for 30 years making the same mistakes over and over..."
