Title: FJ1200 luggage racks
Post by: movenon on December 01, 2012, 12:29:08 AM
Ran across these if anyone has any interest in them. They indicate that they are for GIVI bags. I am just passing the info. I have no ties or involvement with the seller or product.

Not sure how those are intended to work, but I see no tab to engage a Givi latch plate, nor the tabs to engage the bottom of the bags.  Some assembly/additional parts are probably necessary to make those work, IMO.      :unknown:

Most likely that's why they are on fleabay,   I am not that knowlegable on the GIVI saddle bag mounting systems. The price seem high to me for old mounts but if someone was in need of them it might be of value. I do have A KAPPA (GIVI) rear rack on my bike. Had a hard time locating that. The factory in Italy said my chances of locating one in the U.S. for an FJ was slim to none. I found one in Canada after a long search. Next I will be trolling for a top box of some sort to mount on it.  Then some bags to adapt. Got a few trips planned for next summer.

I fit a similar set from a ZZR.  Looks like the ebay set comes with instructions but does need more than pictured.

JC Whitney still carries these cheap-ass Givi knock-offs.  I've been using one for quite some time (without the cheesy Iron Cross sticker).  With slight modification, mine securely fit right onto my Givi rack.

*note* only the large style shares the same Givi mounting style, not the medium.  I also removed the iron-cross but replaced them with Gel Yamaha tuning forks decals.  They've held up well, which includes a tip over when the bike rolled forward after I parked on a hill w/o setting the bike in gear.

John,

Do you have the Givi Monokey Wingrack? If so, do these just slide right on or are there other mods to make them fit?

Thanks,

CraigO

They are made by Givi, but I don't think they are referred to as a wing-rack.  I purchase them intending to have to modify them, but really didn't have to very much.  I had to bend the metal tube which goes to the foot peg a tad.  Also there is a metal tube behind the license plate connecting the two sides, I had to shorten it by about 1 inch.  Then drilled and tapped the aluminum grab bar for the top mount.  I have had them on for several year and they work well.  The top case plate is bolted onto an FJ specific rear rack.  I used FZ1 turn signals after shortening the stems on them.

I didn't care for the design of the Hepco & Becker top box, plus I could not locate one even if I wanted one. I found this cheap top box on Ebay for $65.00 w/free shipping. It mounts easily to the Hepco rear rack. I don'y believe that is would work on the solid Givi or Krauser rear racks. I installed LED strips where the center reflector is. Works great as a high running light.

TNX ! I ordered the large one for 40.85 delivered.. Hard to beat the price ! I plan on only using it for longer trips not for daily use.  Now I will try to pick up a small "scooter" top box for around town. Probably have to adapt the box a bit. I Think that my top plate is a Monokey. To confuse things GIVI has a Monokey and a Monolock top plates. Adapt and overcome.... :)

The first one of them I had (trashed it in a major way) fit right on, but it rattled a lot.

The one I currently have had much smaller slots for the tabs at the front of the top plate.  About 10 minutes of work with a X-Acto knife was all that was required for a very nice fit.

I have this exact system on my `90 FJ. It fits my Givi E45 Monokey boxes.

The rack set is *NOT* complete and is missing some significant parts; namely the top rack and some assorted hardware.

It will not work on a later bike (`91-9?) without modification.

Personally, I feel that the price is too high for an incomplete system. Depends on just how bad you want one, though!

Fred, it came with the bike unattached and didn't realize what I had until joining a few FJ forums.  It's flow well with the lines etc... but checking oil level is a bugger.  This is a shot of the right side, see that little hole?

Well I ended up ordering a case from JC Whitny because it was a deal too good to pass up.

Use the coupon code BUYJCW5 for 15% off instead of 10%. Brings the total down for the large to $38.61 shipped before tax.

I received a JCW top case the other day and mounted it on a GIVI Monokey plate with a small bit of modification. Works good, nice and tight fit. The construction of the case is a lot better than I was expecting. It will serve well for top luggage box and I certainly will not feel bad if it gets scuffed up a bit in use for the price. The mounting plate they send with the box is lightly constructed (thin) but truthfully it is designed to mount on top of an existing rigid luggage rack and in that application would work fine.
I ordered a couple of 50mm Yamaha reflective gell badges from "fleabay" to replace the top iron cross badge and the rear red reflector. I am looking into replacing the rear reflector with a small led light as another option... There is some orange trim going around the front of the case. Not as ugly as I thought but I will probably get some plastic rated paint and paint it black.  I paid 41.80 dollars delivered and spent another 10.00 bucks to trim it in a bit.
Now for some saddle bags and warm weather......

Just as well... if your bike spends any time at all in the sun, it'd turn pink anyway.     :empathy2:     DAMHIKIJKOK

I thought about the "pink" deal but didn't want to stir up the pink crowd :) Now you throwing pink meat in the water....
