Title: Hi from New Zealand
Post by: biggo on November 30, 2012, 01:14:46 AM
Hi

My name is Phil and I live just north of Wellington in the north island of New Zealand.
I have a 1993 FJ1200 that I have owned about 3 years now.  Always loved FJ,s my two best biking mates in the UK had them brand new when I had my trusty XJ900 (still have it).  Doing a fairy major going over at the moment in readyness for a two week trip to the South Island in February  :good2:

Hi Phil and welcome to the site!  Yep, there are a few FJ Riders in NZ, although I have only seen 2 other FJ's in my area.  I'm in Papamoa, just out of Mt Maunganui (and not too far from those mud puddles), and ride a 1991.

Welcome to the group. A person can not find a better group of fellow riders than here. Having had your bike for 3 years, you have probably been to the Kookaloo zone and not even known it.

Welcome Phil, having an FJ in your nick of the woods to ride has got to be one of the best things on this planet. I guess you have to be careful of the livestock though...

Awwww, all these riders in Australia on FJs.

Many FJ riders from New Zealand appearing.

Tons of FJ riders throught the good ol US of A.

A few in the UK around Englandshire...

But NONE in Scotland?  Where are they all?  IS it just me?  Am I the only rider of one of these things over the border?

Surely not.

Maybe that'll explain why I have ridden all over, and never met another one up here.  Closest I came to was an XJR.

Hi Thanks for welcome  :greeting:

Dont have too much trouble with livestock biggest problem for bikers seems to be tourist who are not used to driving on the left side of the road, especially on issolated roads .

Yep, Baldy was here for the 2012 WCR and had a bit of a mental tussle. He led the way out after taking a great picture of 4 FJs parked in a cutout Redwood tree. He was on instinct and stayed Left while a car coming the other way keeping to it's Right, looking like a collision. Then he realized what country he was in and veered over before needing the brakes really hard.

I imagine I will have the same issue when I attend the 2014 Aussie rally. I drove on the left once when I was much younger and with less time to form driving habits. I had no issues adjusting as driving was still new to me then. Maybe I can take a driver safety class on line from the land down under....

We've got Stuart ( MZ Rider) who lives in Glasgow Scotland.... that fairly close you ya?

He does fantastic trip reports (check out that forum section)  He also takes fabulous pictures of faraway places for us all to drool over.... i would highly recommend hooking up with him if you want to get some good riding in.
