Title: Blocked At Work
Post by: SlowOldGuy on August 26, 2009, 07:59:25 PM
Marsh,
Do you know of any reason my work would block your site?  Are you running something that would trip some kind of alarm?  I'm sure they are overly paranoid and extreme, but yours is the only m/c site that I visit that's been blocked.

Bummer, as this will severly limit my participation.

That's my fear.  They just started blocking videos.  Just a matter of time, I suppose.

Third day on the job my employer blocked this site and Hotmail. I never visited either site on company time; always on my breaks or before work. I work for a small mom & pop operation and they have nothing better to do with their time than to police things like this, but I'm surprised that this has happened to somebody else who has a job in a "REAL" company.

David, I have absolutely no idea why it would be blocked.  I am running open-source, out of the box software (with just a few tweaks) hosted with a reputable hosting company.  All of the links to the software company and hosting site are at the bottom of this site.  I wonder if it is the embedded youtube (and such) video?  That is a great feature however and I would be hesitant to turn it off.  Nope, I'm not doing ANYTHING block worthy....it shows up TOTALLY clean on all of the malware/virus scans (one of the reasons I don't allow attachments other than in the files section...which is completely invisible to all bots and scanners, search engines, etc.)  I'm at a loss...

Oh, I've never had a client of mine blacklisted either...contrary to what Klavdy says...I don't do porn sites!

You may well be able to bypass their filter (depending on type) by using this site's IP directly, rather than the name.

I can bypass the filter at my work by running Firefox off a flash drive, though I think IT has caught onto that.

Hitting the free wifi with my netbook is safer.

David - just a quick followup: Is this site still blocked at your work?  I see that you have been posting A LOT lately (thanks!  :good2:) - but that may be because you have been at home.  Let me know!  Also - I would like to know from others if this site is blocked SPECIFICIALLY at your work as well.

I can log on at my work which is huge surprise. Our web access is tighter than fish's bunghole. But knowing they monitor web access I keep my FJ sight access to a minimum. Nice to know that I can check in when things are slow, which is not often for me.   :morning2:

My employer attempts to block all forums as SOP.

They haven't noticed this one yet, though.      :good:
