Post by: Klavdy on November 21, 2012, 07:45:26 AM
Mate of mines Dad just bought what is essentially a brand new, six cylinder Honda.

Wow!!! Ride it or keep the miles low... Tough choice. Very nice to see that in actual new showroom condition and not simply restored.

Nice bike for it's day.  Doesn't "adapt" to the modern world as well as the FJ does.  It would make a good museum piece.

I think I'd rather have that British green Triumph 955 sitting behind it.  :-)

I love the last pic of him standing with the bike - he looks so PIMP!  Obviously he went the route of getting it road ready and riding it again - good on him!   :good2:

Nice bike, iconic in fact.  These were the days when Honda felt willing to flex it's engineering muscle.

Still if I'm being frivolous, I think I'd put that $34K USD into something else more approachable...

Happy Thanksgiving folks.

That CBX is a clone of the first one I ever saw back in the day.
A guy in my hometown had one.
The sound of that engine is a treat to the ears.

I'd add one to my collection if that were possible!

I had one from new and have said many times over the years it is the only bike of the 30 or so I've owned that I wish I still had.

If only to sit in the garage with a glass of wine and stare at that motor and occasionally start it up just to listen to it.

I can understand that guy keeping it in his lounge as a static display after deciding  it was too hairy for him to ride.

A quick check of CBX's for sale here shows good used ones with reasonable mileage are bringing $20k +.

Now if I'd only kept the CBX, some of the other bikes and cars and ......................

That got me thinking.

A quick check of prices for the top 6 collectable cars (all Aussie muscle cars) I have had shows the best examples for sale now would collectively bring about $750,000.

They had a total new car value of about $25,000.

I bought them all when 1 -3 years old for probably half that in the 70's and 80's.

Owning these cars when near new was a matter of choice, not wealth, as they were not that much more expensive than standard versions, all Aussie muscle cars being based on boring family cars.

Then again, if I'd put 10k in the bank in 1970.......................................

I read about that bike on the CBX forum a while back. I have the engine out of my 79. What a lump.....makes an FJ engine seem "light".

Not trying to be a dick here, because I like these bikes, but 34k???? Really, I know it's low miles and all, but recently in my neighborgood a guy has one with under 5k on it, and couldn't get $6,500 for it..... There are severa in my area with 20k or less on them for about $10k, and they have been for sale for ever. I hope your buddy enjoys it, they are fun to ride and attract a crowd eveywhere they go. Honda also made a 250 six cylinder race bike years ago that was pretty impressive, I think it revved to 18k or something insane...

I'm guessing those are A$ he spent.  They are actually worth more than US$, but the bike is much more rare here than in the US and bike prices are also much higher here than in US.
As for the Honda 250/6 that IIRC Hailwood rode to many victories, its not insane that it revved to 18K, but that current MotoGP bikes 1000/4s are revving that high.  I think F1 engines also are spun that high as well.
