Hello all,
Have discovered a very worrying problem with my 85 FJ1100. She is not starting very well, the electrics I think are buggered, and I do not know where to plug in the rear wheel, it did not seem to work so I took it off for awhile to see if things improved. :wacko2:
I think I need a mechanic!?

in all seriousness I am getting it rebuilt to go on a FJ rally in March.
More info needed, and the pics aren't loading... What exactly do you mean by "not starting very well"?

No worries mate! Ya got 13 weeks and I got a skateboard & Rope for back-up. You got a Rally Shirt?
13 weeks?!
I reckon it should be sweet!
Getting the bugger of a motor back into the frame will be interesting, maybe more interesting than getting the bugger of a thing out by myself!
Will keep you posted.
cheers, Gareth
...If I could only work out why the starter motor is not responding...

Mentioning engine removal / fitting techniques is a bit like asking about oil.
I put the centre stand on a bit 4x2 and sit the motor on a floor jack.
After you have done it once and figured out the angle and tilt, 5 - 10 mins from wheeling it to the bike to having the back bolt through. If you then want move the jack or the bike, the engine will hang from that bolt.
I've done a few like this and can't imagine an easier way.
If you run out of time, chuck it all in a trailer and tow it to the rally. I'm sure we can overlook the fact that it didn't actually arrive under its own power.

The starter can be locked out by a safety system. If the bike is in gear the clutch switch and the side stand switch can prevent the starter from turning. A bad starter switch can also give you problems. Make sure you are in Neutral. The starter switch can be cleaned up and put back in service most of the time.
Can see the problem , a plug lead is loose
