Title: Hello from upstate NY!
Post by: mcrowley on October 24, 2012, 07:30:24 PM
Just thought I'd introduce myself, my name is Mike - I'm not necessarily a "new" FJ owner, however I've officially inherited one as of this week!

1985, approx 13k mi, bought new in 6/85 by my old man.  This bike and I have quite the history - burned my leg on the pipe at age 8, knocked it over in the garage at age 10, first bike I rode on the road and first one I've been down on (low side last fall).  I've still got a few minor bugs to work out but its great to have it back on the road!

I've also got two other bikes:

2003 Kawi Z1000

...and Dad's last enduro bike, 1980 KTM 250GS

Welcome to the group. Great story that the bike has stayed in the family and passed to a second generation. If you intend to keep it OEM stock, beware of Moditus. Lurking around in forum you may catch it...... :good:

Welcome
You have found the right place to help ya work out the remaining bugs.
That ol KTM looks especially nice!
Wish my ol IT490 still looked that sharp.

Thanks for the welcome!

The FJ most certainly will remain stock, I guess I'm kind of a purist :good2:  The only non-stock parts on it would be the vintage 80's alarm on the rear fender and the SS clutch line.  The engine guards are NOS Yamaha.

First of all Hello and welcome aboard.   :bye:  This is a great site with TONS of good information and great guys.  I agree with you on keeping your Dads bike stock but warn you, you will be looking for another one to mod.  It's an addiction.  At least that's what my wife thinks. :sarcastic:

I certainly understand that addiction and I've actually been down that road before with two of my Saabs.  I think now that I'm a bit older (not necessarily wiser) I might be over the mod bug.

It'd be a good idea to replace the stock front brake lines, as old as they are, they could be problem in the near future....

Welcome aboard, enjoy the ride!
