Post by: keand3 on October 07, 2012, 11:24:38 AM
Hi all.
My name is Ken and i am a new member to this forum. Live in a small city in Norway. I See the majority of members are from us? Nice to share with people from all over the world:-)
I stumble upon this forum when surfing the web for info about FJ1200.
Just bought a 86' FJ1200 and i have become a kid again:-)
I have tried a lot of bikes, from hd to ducati, from old to new, but the FJ has captured my heart!!
I don't know what it is with this bike, but i am drawn to it:)

Since i live far north in europe there is allmoast winter now and sadlly its not safe to drive for a couple of moths. But then again, its a great time for modding!! See s lot of you have been biten by the same bug?
I am an experieced diver but have never peeked into the world of modding, until now!
I am trying to locate great places to get parts etc for my old FJ, so any tips will be much appriciated.

Regards Ken

Hi Pat.
Thanks for the welcome, I appreciate it :-)
Norway is indeed a beautiful country to ride motorcycles in, but it's kinda hard for me to give an objective opinion but the west coast and futher north has some spectacular roads and views to offer.

Always open for help. Have bought Hayes book on my FJ 1200, and my fingers are itching to start modding.
First up is to disassemble the panels etc. The paint has seen better days im afraid. Its still in its stock paint, white and red.
Mechanical its perfect! I could not have been more lucky with this purchase. Two owners for almost 30 years, didn't think it was possible :-)

Any links regarding spareparts, bodywork etc located in europe would be much appreciated. Have seen several great links on this forum, but they are all in US (almost all)
I need to keep my shipping cost as low as possible, but i prefer quality over shippingcost  :good:

Cheers, Ken

Hi Ken, welcome in! Go with Randy @ RPM, links under vendors off the homepage, he's the man and shipping is pretty damn good, and quick too. I'm in New Zealand, which is just as far away as you and no problems. I can get parts from him cheaper than Yamaha NZ can sell them to me..  Many many people here will back that up for sure!

Happy riding,

James

Welcome to the group Ken, the wealth of knowledge here is awesome. If there is a mod you can think of, there is sure to be a thread about it already posted. Enjoy your Fj and the many miles of riding ahead of you.....

Welcome Ken, you found the right place for FJ knowledge and the occasional shit stirring banter. When you can't ride your FJ you have time to work on it, when your done working on it, log in and stir up some crap to break up the mood. Oh, with the beautiful country you have there, when you ride, take pictures for us. We drool over pictures of countries we (I) wish we could drop our FJs into and ride the roads, meet the people and see the sights. Happy to have you in the group...

:hi: Hi and welcome from the frozen North...CANADA!!!    :rofl2:  :sarcastic:... :good2: I'm a recent first time owner of a stock, Silky White '85 1100 FJ and love her... :yahoo:

You will find a great set of people on here with a massive wealth of FJ knowledge...and a goodly amount of B.S. thrown in, just to lighten the load  :rofl2:  :scratch_one-s_head:... (popcorn)

Never got to Scandinavia in my formative 42 years in England. Enjoyed America, Germany, France, Spain, Greek Islands, Turkey, Bulgaria, Tunisia and a few other out of the way places...before fleeing the oppressive government, slave traders and warm beer merchants in England and restarting life here in Canada  :flag_of_truce: only kidding G B brothers  :sorry:  :bye2:

Like Norway, we have this 'down period' called winter, that allows us to R/R...Reinvest & Repair our FJ's  :rofl2:  ... :drinks:

R/R your FJ this winter and ready yourself for some KOokaloo!

John.

Hej Ken,

kul med någon från Norge ombord!

Nice model FJ, I have the model from the year before, but I always liked the catlike look of the '86.
I'm getting ready for some modding as well. I've collected a set of '93 forks and an '88 FZR1000 wheel, but not ready yet...

RPM is a great source for parts, even for us folks at the other side of the Atlantic.
There are also some nice companies in the U.K. and Germany that will help you with your moditis (check the files section).  But beware, the relief is merely temporary and will lead you down the Moebius path of lifelong FJ addiction...

;)

Greetings from Sweden!
